The Ark-La-Tex area 2021 fall sidecar gathering is scheduled for October 8-10 at Lake Murvaul Park and Marina located ±12 road miles Southwest of Carthage in Panola, County, Texas.  It’s an unassuming facility, but it has a dozen cabins and dozen+½ overnight RV spots, and tent spots across the road from the RV area.  There is also a basic café/store on site with lakeside patio dining.  General info & pics here:  https://www.lakemurvaul.us/   ... appears to be a great place to fish and kayak.

Location:  https://www.google.com/maps/@32.0415357,-94.4346187,14.5z

To book lodging or RV/tent sites, call Haley at 903-693-6562 or book online at: https://lm.bookmysites.com/reservations/checkout-availability?checkin_date=2021-06-17&checkout_date=2021-06-18

Alternative lodging options include several motels on the Southeast Loop in Carthage and perhaps a couple of "airbnb" cabins on Lake Murvaul.

Gas is ±5 miles at either North at the Clayton General Store or Southeast at Gary City.  Both Clayton & Gary City have Dollar General stores.   In addition to the onsite cafe',  ‘bout a mile away is café called the “Feed Trough” (yup, eaten there several times) sorry, the Feed Trough is now closed and for sale, due to health reasons  & Chuck's Country Smoke House BBQ.

We'll post up more info re: rides and schedule as thing develop.  Interesting sites in the area include the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame, the gravesite of Jim Reeves and the Footprints in the Sand monument.

It seems all county roads in Panola County are oil-top, but there are some gravel roads south in Shelby County, where we could potentially take a day ride to Tennessee.

Preliminary Schedule:

Friday October 8th:

10:30 Lunch ride departing the Marina (±80 mile round trip with lunch at ±45 miles & fuel at ±60 miles)

12:00  Lunch at Alexander Burger Company in Cushing, Texas (you're also welcome to meet-up there)

Working on a potential afternoon side trip. Should return to the Marina by 3:00 or 4:00

Friday evening supper own your own.

Saturday, October 9th:

9:45  Group ride 15 miles to Texas Country Music Hall of Fame ($10 Admission per person)

Lunch on your own.

3:30 Jousting Tournament Jousting will be unavailable, maybe some other games

6:30  Dinner on the grounds

Do we need to make a reservation to attend the Rally itself or just reserve a campsite and we are in the Rally?

My wife Sheryl and I want to attend.

Thanks!

Joe

Hi Joe:  Just reserve a campsite and you're in the Rally.   No fee, but no t-shirt.

We're still working on the schedule, but the general idea is:

Friday lunch ride/meet-up;

Saturday morning group ride;

Saturday afternoon jousting tournament; and

Saturday evening dinner-on-the-grounds.

 Anyone know the area well? I am a retired 11B. I refuse to sleep in a tent or on the ground.  Are there any good motels in the area?

Smitty, once you leave the Marina, there are a half-dozen motels on the Southeast Loop in Carthage ±12½ miles away.

Look here for options: https://www.google.com/maps/search/Hotels/@32.1529101,-94.3713497,13z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m8!2m7!3m6!1sHotels!2sCarthage,+TX+75633!3s0x8637068cca91b31d:0x89f2e4d7e8f7db2!4m2!1d-94.3374199!2d32.1573841

We will attend and be tent camping.  The campground said no reservations needed for tents.

Here's hoping for some cooler weather that weekend!

Re: the Lunch Ride/Meet-Up on Friday, October 8th:

Jena and I will plan to arrive at the Marina by 10am on Friday, then depart 10:30 to ride ±45 miles of FM & county roads arriving at the Alexander Burger Company** in Cushing, Texas, about Noontime.  If you are traveling to the rally on Friday and it's convenient on your travels, simply plan to meet-up in Cushing at Noontime.

** The Alexander Burger Company is a food  truck  trailer with covered seating for ±30 patrons, so we'll need to patient at lunchtime.

After lunch we'll plan to ride ±15 miles via county roads to Mt. Enterprise for a fuel stop, then another ±26 miles back to the Marina.  My idea for an educational field-trip after the fuel stop didn't work out, but we can have an option to split into two groups if any of us would like to make a side trip to "Tennessee" involving a couple stretches of unpaved roads (±42 miles total with ±8 miles unpaved).

Re:  Saturday Evening Dinner-on-the-Grounds

Lynn Rozar has graciously offered to provide a spaghetti supper for us on Saturday evening,**

with two sauces, meat & meatless, plus garlic bread for all.

He needs help with the following supplies:

  • A couple pots to boil water and crock pots to keep things warm;
  • Paper plates and forks;
  • A couple volunteers to bring salad and dressings (best picked up in town after we visit the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame Saturday morning); and
  • Desserts!!

** Plans also include gluten free options.

If riding up from the South, beginning at TX103 on the North side of Sam Rayburn lake, FM95 North to FM1971 is a pleasant alternative to US59.
