I debated posting this for a while.Β  A fairly long while.Β  Even though they have the right number of wheels they are in all the wrong places.

Personally I find the technology fascinating - stability and ability.Β  I like (gasp) the Yamaha Niken and the Piaggio MP3.Β  But these big bike kits are even more interesting to me.

First up a truly rare bird.Β  1985 BMW K100 Tilting Trike.Β  Bike was brought over from Germany. Kit is Tilting Motorworks. Odo is in Km (100,408km; 62,390mi).Β  Great Falls, VirginiaΒ  $10,000

Next the more commonly seen Harley conversion.Β  2016 Fat Boy Low. Also with Tilting Motor Works kit. 4100 mils. Hartland, IL. $17,000

I have seen an 1800 Goldwing done like this.Β  I figured the conversion on this would be over $20k.

The original company, Tiltin' Motors, was founded up in Snohomish, Washington, about 35(ish) miles north of Seattle. Snohomish, Washington is where my Scottish ancestors homesteaded back in 1820, years before Washington became a state.

I have test driven one of the Tiltin' Motors Goldwing 1800 trikes, several years ago, at a rally in Reno. It was quite interesting to drive, but felt well planted and secure.

Just a couple years ago, the original Tiltin' Motors was sold, or bought out, by a company in the Salem, Oregon area, that also makes 3 wheeled vehicles.

The "engineering and design" of the titling mechanism is quite impressive.

Oh, and Thane...the conversion of this on a Goldwing 1800 was south of $ 15K...but that was a few years ago, and before they sold the company.

I think it's a pretty cool concept.Β  Watched a review of the Nikken, where they pushed it through it's paces on a dry and wet track.Β  Would be fun to test ride.Β  I was considering a Morgan 3 Wheeler a while back, but realized I don't pay enough attention to road conditions to survive three separate wheel paths.Β  Two wheel paths of a sidecar rig stretches my mental capacity greatly.Β  😆Β

Another thing that impressed me about the Tiltin conversion was the visible quality of the componentsΒ  and design compared to CanAm Spyders.Β  Conversations I've read and heard regarding the suspension components of Spyders was a major factor in not pursuing them at all when it became necessary to add 3 wheeled conveyances to the mix.
