Watsonian sidecars

The Watsonian sidecar will work well with this bike however you will need to have a sub frame. I ran a 1978 R100/7 with a Ural sidecar and my wife at the same time ran a 1977 R100S with a sidecar, they both worked well. The two fat ladies sidecar is a GP700 which can be seen on our web site.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know for sure if the sidecar is still available, I haven't contacted the fellow selling it since I talked to him a couple of weeks ago. The unit has zero miles on it, the owner wanted to duplicate the Two Fat Ladies rig, mounted it to a Bonniville but died before he had a chance to ride it. The bike was sold, but the original owner's friend has the sidecar listed. What do these units sell for new? I just want to know so I can make a resonable offer. If I am able to make a deal I will be interested in a subframe and help in mounting and setup. Thanks, Dan

i checked the watsonion web site, and assuming you are refering to watsonions with metal strips running horrizontally along the body like steib sidecars, they seem to range in price from 6400 to 8400 dollars, figuring 1.60 dollars to the pound and i think shipping is on top of that, i think you should find out what model watsonion it is, they have a lot of models, then check watsonion on the web and make your own decision, i think watsonion is the oldest sidecar company still in production, which may or may not be of interest to you. however they do make some good looking sidecars.

Thanks for the info. It is indeed the model with the chrome strips making it look like the old bullet nose stiebs. I like the vintage style, although I have not seen a watsonian in person yet. Most of the outfits I have seen at rallies have been Urals, Velorex and once in a great while an EML. A fellow in the chicago area has a bullet nose stieb on an R90/6 painted the same monza blue as my /7. I fell in love with the look. I think the Watsonian is larger than the stieb, and I belive the stieb does not have any suspension. The ability to fit a full sized adult in comfort is important as I have a couple of disabled friends and giving them rides would brighten their lives as well as my own. I realy shouldn't spend a lot of mony right now, but if I could get a good deal it would be hard to pass up, even if I had to wait a year to get it mounted to the bike.

We are a dealer for Watsonian. The two fat ladies sidecar is a GP 700 which sells for $7975 plus shipping from the UK. The GP700 is the wider version of the GP sidecar. We also make a wider version of our M72D sidecar, the M72DX which runs $5295 and includes a disk brake a standard as well as bike specific mounts. The brake is an option from Watsonian and adds $630 to the cost.

Thanks for the info Jay. looking at the picktures of the unit for sale it looks like it is not the 700 wide body version. that's fine with me as I would prefer the smaller one. It does not look to have a brake. That is a negative as my /7 has only the single ATE disk ( known as the orriginal anti lock brake)I'm sure that would not be very safe. With the subframe, brake upgrade to both bike and sidecar it looks like this could run into a lot of money. Does your Ural like sidecar come with the subframe and sidecar brake?

Our M72D comes with the mounts but the brake is a $500 option. The wider version the M72DX comes with the brake as standard.
I ran with a single ATE for a while, I then went to a dual ATE and then latter to a leading link and converted to Brembo's on the front. Of all the improvements I made to the brakes on the bike, the one that gave me the most for the least money spent was to get rid of the master under the tank and change it over to the master on the handle bar. Doing away with the cable improved the brakes quite a bit.
If you do want to go with the Watsonian we can order a brake in for you. Price is $630 plus shipping.
The Watsonian has a bit different mounts then we normaly make, we can make the sub frame for wastonian but have to make up some custom eye bolts to work with it or order them in from Watsonian. Watsonian's standard eye bolts use a 3/4 inch 20tpi thread pitch which is hard to come by even in the UK as 3/4 16 is the normal standard for fine thread 3/4 inch.
