Federal Formosa 195/55/16 will be lower then OEM tire. (not sure if 195 mm tire will fit in swing arm) You will lose some road clearance. Austone Taxi 175R16 tire little taller. Make sure you readjust your rig after you install new tire. Otherwise your new tire will be eaten fast.

Hi VLAD. Thanks for posting. 🙂 I am on the fence about using the 195/55/16. I really do not want an increase in RPM or a loss in road clearance. So I may not use it anyway.
Just trying to get my ducks in a row before I need a new tire.

As far as adjusting the rig goes, I have electric tilt or lean whichever you want to call it. 🙂 Is this what you are talking about ? It's pretty handy, I use it all the time.
I have rig just like yours, except mine is red. I heard that the blue ones are faster. LOL 🙂

I have a Federal Formosa 195/55/16 on the rear of my GL1500 , 1995 with a Hannigan Astro 2+2. I bought another one to use when this one wears out . Got it from Easy Tires $65.00 delivered to my front door. ImthI think I have about 9400 miles on it with plenty of tread left.

How in the heck did you manage to get a 195 to fit in a gl1500.? A number of years ago I had a 1993 Aspy. and I couldn't get a Austone taxi tire to fit without rubbing on everything under there. I took it off and sold it. What did you have to modify ?

PS..... That 195 you are using looks to be a lot smaller diameter then the M/C tire. How much did it raise the RPM ? which I already think is to high .

Austone taxi tire will fit. Clearance will be about 1/2 - 3/4" on each side of swing arm. You will have to remove only small shield on front part of rear fender( if you don't it will be taken off by tire itself)

Current: New:

Current New Difference

Sidewall Height: 4.96'' 4.22'' -0.74''
Section Width: 7.09'' 7.68'' 0.59''
Tire Height: 25.92'' 24.44'' -1.48''
Tire Circum: 81.43'' 76.78'' -4.65''
Rev. / Mile: 778.09 825.21 47.12
If your speedometer reads 65 mph, you are going about 61.3 mph

Current: New:

180/70/16 175/80/16

Current New Difference
Sidewall Height: 4.96'' 5.51'' 0.55''
Section Width: 7.09'' 6.89'' -0.2''
Tire Height: 25.92'' 27.02'' 1.1''
Tire Circum: 81.43'' 84.89'' 3.46''
Rev. / Mile: 778.09 746.38 -31.71

Thanks for posting these specs. This helps. Kinda looks like a 180/70/16 might be the way to go ??

I made mistake. 160/70/16 for GL1500(180/70/16 for GL1800. sorry) is OEM size motorcycle tire. Closest automotive tire 175R16.

Are you sure auto tire is 195/55/16 not 175/55/16?

Make sure you readjust your rig after you install new lower or higher tire. Otherwise your new tire will be eaten fast. Make sure to do adjustment after changing triple tree. Picture of new tire after 500mi since tree replacement.

Vlad, the stock tire size for a GL1500 is 160/80/16 and the GL1800 is 180/60/16.

Positive about the size You can see it in my pics and I’ve included a few more . No issues with rubbing or anything. 195/55/16.

Thanks bentley. It sure does look like it fits just fine..... However looking at the last pic kinda a side shot from the rear.... everything under there is just to dang clean..... you need to get out and ride more. hahahahaha 🙂
