After dithering around for the last couple of years (you may recall prior posts about dual-sport rigs, Ural power, etc), my finances & the market came together. The Soviet Steeds site had a listing for a 2006 Ural Tourist w/ less than 1500km for $6K & when it was checked out & found to be in essentially new condition, I couldn't pass it up. Last weekend, a quick trip to FL made it mine!

I took the STE/P class from Adventure Sidecars last Oct & found it to be very good (fun *and* educational). More importantly, I realized that I was not ready for a 450 mile trip on a new rig through Orlando-area traffic so I decided to trailer the rig home. Every thing went smoothly, other than catching the flu, and I was home w/ title & tag by Monday afternoon.

I've since done a bit of local mileage in my semi-rural county and have many small and gravel/dirt roads to look forward to. I figure I'll give myself a couple of weeks to practice the exercises in the "Yellow Book" before trying to give family/friends a ride. Remembering the class, I know I've got a pretty good amount of practice to do before things become smooth and somewhat ingrained as my 2-wheel habits.

See you down the road,
Bill

Congratulations! It looks like a beautiful rig. 🙂
Practice is the key. The more you practice, the bigger you'll smile. A winning combo!
Safe riding, I know you are already smilin', 'cause sidecars do that to ya. 🙂
Gp
