RV vs hotel

smiht8883: Y'all might do well with a toy-hauler set up like Hardy's down in Texas. His recipe was something like: Take an enclosed cargo trailer (at least 4 feet longer than your rig) with a side access door, install sufficient cabinets in the front to organize clothes and gear plus a frig, have a comfortable enough bed, and you have a functional all-weather over-nighter, just no kitchen/bath. Maybe he is listening in and will post a photo.

It only takes about a minute and a half to unfold in a rainstorm, normally about 5 minutes. and the contents underneath stay bone dry. In the rain your primary focus is to not be in the rain, lol. When I pulled it with my 'Wing, I literally had everything including the kitchen sink, there's probably close to 24 cubic feet in the under box. I had 2 camp chairs, a sleeping bag, a Coleman stove, a combination coffee pot, toaster oven, hotplate, a case of diet Coke, a 5 gallon water jug, a folding table and chairs, small ice chest, and a side table for an alarm clock. With some staple items like crackers, chips, etc. I actually got better fuel mileage pulling the camper than I did without it, not significant, 43 mpg vs 41 mpg, I think that was because I kept under 60-62 mph, and was gentler on acceleration and braking.
I'm thinking I won't be anywhere near that mpg, I can't get much better than 35-37 as it is.
But it is my bed, and I'm the one that slept in it the night before.
I've taken it to Myrtle Beach several times on ministry trips for bike week and had plenty of room for me, and my "stuff".

Personlly I have a "Toy Hauler" trailer. Best thing I ever did. I love camping and riding but the wife doesnt like long distance rides(she has her own motorcycle). Tha advantages are if it rains while your there you have the truck to drive , but you still have the bikes and YOUR OWN camper and sleeping arrangements. As some have already stated camping allows you to meet more people . The hotel experience is like being in prixson , nobody looks at you or speaks to you.----picture order, my bike 01 Sportster , wifes bike 95 Ultra Classic Electra Glide , camper Rage'N RV toy hauler 24 ft
Nice looking rigs, the sportster makes a great tug, we love ours and swampfox has another one! All sounds good and is part of the delema!
We have a 30ft motorhome. Pull a flatbed trailer with both rigs on it. We usually go out for 3 months in summer to get out of heat in Tex. Some cheap membership campgrounds, less than $100 a year get you in for half price. We try to sit a week in one place, ride all around the areal Don't like motels. M.H. is home when we travel. Sleep in my own bed, have our own food, satelite so we get our favorite TV shows. See you down the road, plan on being in Id. for nationals. J.R. @ Avanell
We're the ones who pilot our rig instead of towing. Less licensing, maintenance, insurance, storage problems and depreciation. Honk when you haul past our Hotel or Motel.
Happy trails,

I much prefer to ride to and from and have a small cargo trailer to tow with the rig if need be. Used to have a Kwik Kamp that Barb and I used for many years but sold it as part of raising the funds for the Liberty. But there are times that for one reason or another, it makes more sense to haul the bike although at one time I didn't believe that would ever be the case. But then again, at one time I thought the only people who would ride on three wheels were those who couldn't handle two. But that's not my point in writing this now and my thinking has changed a lot from what it was some years back. I have a "poor man's toy hauler". It's a standard cargo trailer and I've had a tent built for the back that increases the floor space the size of the ramp door. It sits on jack stands, snap the tent into place and Henry and I have a fine place to stay if we got there via the truck and trailer route...
Hack'n & Pogo, will be looking for that red rig in our travels one way our the other!!!
Reardan I like the idea of the DIY toyhauler been thinking about that! Could you post some pics of the setup! I hate to ask because so far posting pics has eluded me!!
We don't tend to stay to long in any one spot, just to much to see and not enough money to see it all!! So gotta keep going, that's the reason we stay off the highway, so much to see!
I'll send photos to your regular e-address rather than posting them here...
Done. Sent to your msn address. Enjoy the ride!
