SidecarMike,
I am sure you have the best of attentions and respect for Dauntless. I do admire that.

Actually, if I had a problem with them I would be the first to post here. I only told the truth, that my experience has always been good. I believe you'll find the same to be true of others here.

But I have to respectively and aggressively disagree with you regarding complaints about Dauntless on the net. I personally counted more than 10 complaints and heard of complaints from (more than one) fellow sidecar owners.

I have said earlier. I have not done business nor have I had any personal dealings with Dauntless. I was repeating what I personally saw and heard.

I still haven't been able to find these complaints you keep alluding to. Maybe you'd like to post some current links for us?

If this makes me a terrible person, I do apologize. But I would hope that the forum is a fair and unbiased forum that welcomes opinions as long as they are not personal attacks from anger or inflammatory in nature.
Mike

I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding you, but this just seems to be exactly that, A personal and inflammatory attack against a company that you say you have never actually done business with.

Except for the fact we don't have bikes anymore.

Speak for yourself. I have the best of both worlds. A dedicated sidecar rig and a GXSR 1000 bike

I fully realize I am going against the majority here, but this has to be said: Jay and Dauntless may have many supporters, but I too am one of the people he blessed with BMW Cruiser sidecar mounts that did not fit. So far, Jay has refused to do anything about it. On March 9, he sent me the following email:

"We have stoped building this mount set until such time as we can get another bike into the shop to figure out what is going wrong with this mount. I did not know we had any more out there that had not been installed or I would have contacted you.
In Sergio's case we paid for the time needed to make the mounts work.
Jay Giese Dauntless Motors Corporation"

Based on the above, it is quite obvious that he knew he was selling mounts that did not fit. In my case all three pieces had to be reworked because of clearance problems. Jay's solution after the fact was quite simple: return the mounts to him for reworking while the bike was in the shop disassembled. Any machinist, especially one who specializes in sidecars, has the capability to rework the parts and certainly would not want his shop space occupied for weeks while waiting on Jay.

Jay has not returned any of my emails trying to settle our issue since mid-May, certainly not a model for successful business practices and repeat customers. While I now own a great BMW Cruiser-Terraplane rig, this former Dauntless customer is not going to sing the praises of Jay Giese until he is willing take care of his mistakes. Sergio and his friends in Florida are not the only dissatisfied former customers.

Wolf,

I would back off, this is one apple cart that does not like opinions contrary to what they deem is politically correct.

I also DO NOT understand Hackellis' comments about 'politically correct'.
If it was done as a trolling statement for a debate that was wrong.
If it was done as a statment to give some kind of impression that we are all here to defend Dauntless or anyone else it was wrong.

I am glad to hear that we can exchange our thoughts openly without fear of hysteria. I stand corrected. Back to the matter at hand. There have been more than one complaint regarding the lack of customer service from Dauntless and ill fitting sub-frames. Most of the BMW sites do not recommend Dauntless.

Amen to not using Dauntless. Unless you want parts that don't match, extra costs that were never quoted and an attitude of "don't let the screen door hit you in the butt on the way out!". Oh, and if you buy a Champion from them, ask them about the standard breaks versus the optional disk break. You won't believe the answer.

It seems like you were asked twice to provide the links you refer to. which seems reasonable? If there are anywhere near the problems you suggest it would be all over the place, particularly in a world as small as what the sidecarist occupies?

I have a new VStrom with a SC, done by Dauntless. Outstanding workmanship. Done on time also. But thats not the point. I also did a search (I used Yahoo) on Dauntless. Only negative I could find was this thread, plus one "maybe" on a guy who installed one on a K bike. He didn't complain, just said he had to make some mods, took 6 hurs to do.

Also found links which said I could find Dauntlee complaints on EBay and Lycos (LOL)

I actually expected to find a few negatives, but just found references to Jay, the company, nice guy, etc. I had also checked earlier, before I shipped the Strom to Seattle. Same result.

Just my experinece, yours may differ.

Glad R1200hack got his hack finished. That's the most imprtane issue.
