Only problem I had with my subframe was not following the instructions. They specifically stated that I should attach all bolts loosely and then start tightening. When I got three bolts in, I tightened them down and had problems getting the rest started. Once I read the instructions everything went together properly. I was satisfied enough that three years later when I bought the Ural car, I didn't shop around I just called Jay.

SO FAR HE OFFERED TO GIVE ME BACK $100. I MAY JUST HAVE TO DUMP OUT THE DAUNTLESS SUB FRAME AND START FROM SCRATCH. AT $1132.00 IT'S AN EXPENSIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE.

The shop installing this mounting system phoned today saying they were having difficulties with it. As the bike is a long way from us I offered to take the parts back. They then told me that they had modified the parts. The owner of the shop suggested that I offer $100 for the trouble of modifying the parts. I did offer $100. I know of no company that will take parts back once they have been modified. We offered to exchange the upper front mount which from the sounds of it my shipping department may have shipped a GS mount instead of a C mount as they look very similar. The offer was declined.
We were never given the chance by the installing the shop a chance to make things right. We do not know if the problem is that the parts were made wrong, The parts were designed for a slightly different model of bike, The bike has aftermarket parts such as different pipes or if the parts are not being installed correctly.
We try to make every part right but some times when you make several hundered mounting sets a year things do not always work out as we would hope. When this happens we try to make things right. We some times can do this long distance with photo's but were not given the chance. In this case we did what the shop suggested in good faith and offered $100. An amount they suggested. We would have prefered to have the shop phone us before they decieded to modify the parts. We could have then either taken the mounts back for a full refund, or taken them back to check against our sample that we keep in our jigs to make sure they were made correctly. If not we would either fix the mounts or make new ones. We were not given the chance to do this.

Bummer deal there Jay. I hope the customer is able to work it out with you. I for one have never heard anything but the highest recomendations for your parts. "Fair price, great products, great service" is all I've ever heard.

JAY-
I PAID A PREMIUM PRICE FOR YOUR SUB FRAME AND RECEIVED A BOX OF MISMATCHED PARTS THAT YOU ADMITTED WERE FOR A GS. THEN YOU MADE IT SEEM LIKE I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THEY WERE FOR A GS, EVEN THOUGH YOU DID NOT SEND INSTRUCTIONS OR A PARTS LIST.
THERE'S A FELLOW HERE IN MIAMI THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS YOU AND ANOTHER PERSON IN W.PALM BEACH, MAYBE YOU REMEMBER HIM IT WAS FOR A /7?

I just ordered a complete rig from Jay yesterday, with TILT, racks, Disc brake... you name it... and reading your posts you have NOT taken away any of the confidence that I have in Jay... as I have been dealing with him for a couple weeks now with many, many questions... and have spoken to many others having dealt with him... no blemishes...
It seems that he has not been given the chance to rectify an "error" as YES... errors happen! I have been self employed now for 39 years... and as I consider myself a "human being"... "errors" happen here and there... all we can do is learn from those experiences... put away the bitterness of time or $'s waisted and go on with our lives...
If this is the worse thing that has ever happened in your life... consider yourself lucky... it will all work out in the end and... in a hundred years no one will even remember this!
Safe driving and be well...

I received the sub frame for my R1200C 2 weeks ago, sidecar is hooked up now.
It's true Jay had some problem delivering the sub frame for the R1200C and he took him a hard time to figure out what was the problem, but Jay has always been very honest with this issue and finally delivered me what I consider a wonderfull job if you look at the difficulty to do such a frame for a R1200C. I will buy again from Jay!

Of course some adjustment are needed when installing, it is normal to find some dimensional variation from one motorcycle to an other.

Installing this kind of subframe and a sidecar to a R1200C is for someone who has mechanical skills.
They will always be some adjustment to do. If you are in Detroit area, I can do that for you.

Why not try Hannigan's. They recently did a fellows BMW near me and did a bang up job. They have years of experience with BMW's and are a great group to deal with. I think they are the best in the business with quick turn around times.

If I were to guess, I'd say that the rig was being assembled by a shop with no previous sidecar experience. That is never a good thing. Just because they know BMW's does not mean they know sidecars.

Hannigan's are one of the top manufacures of Sidecars in the US. They just happen to have come up through the ranks being a BMW dealer years ago.
If you Google Hannigan's, the web site can explain more than I can.

I don't want to get in an internet battle of who is best.
