How Much is it Worth?

I'm thinking about selling my rig, (no more room in the garage) its a 2005 HD FLHTC with HD Sidecar about 4k on it.

I've got about $35,000 into the setup; chrome, reverse, performance upgrades.

Any thoughts on what it's worth?

I'm secretly hoping it's low (the wife says I can keep it if we can't get enough for it)

Any realistic books on the valuaton of sidecar rigs?

I'm guessing she'll let you keep it. I checked with my mechanic. He's not a dealer, but I trust his word. He runs an independent shop, but he's a Harley rider and has been pretty accurate in the past. He says his books give it a high retail of about $22k if it has all the options. The Kelly book gives $15790 for the bike but no price on the sidecar.
On eBay, the bidding lately seems to get hung up at about $18k. Seldom see one go over that.
The problem I've seen with something that new is that the folks who can afford it would rather buy new and get the color and options they want and the cheap financing. Consequently you take a shot on value until it's four or five years old, then things level out. Just my opinion, but maybe you just need a bigger garage. :0)

Current NADA book on the Bike average retail is $16,830.00 (Stock).

3rd generation reverse: $800.

Sidecar:
TLE $5,460. to $5,890. depending on color.
Ultra: $6,390. to $6,740. depending on color.
From the appraisel guide:
Note: Due to custom features such as chrome, paint, engine modifications, and market conditions (summer/winter), some values may increase by as much as 10% to 30%.

Spoke to my mechanic who works on harleys for many years. He thinks your in the 20 - 22 range.
Also depends if you find someone who really wants the rig as it is set up.
Good Luck

So many times it seems liek the chrome etc may help a bike sell but seldom increase the amount it may sell for. Situations vary though.

(sorry... again)

Ride it down to Asheville and I'll give you $10K cash and a bus ticket on the spot.

No- really! I'm serious.

You work at the Bus station, Ernie? LOL
Greyhound tickets must be worth a lot more than they were in 1950.
The last time I rode a Greyhound Bus. The bus got snowed in at a flag stop in St. Helens, OR and I had to hike 15 miles in a blizzard to my logging camp at Cornelius Pass (wearing penny loafers). Bus driver went to the Hotel, I was broke so I left on footback. They wouldn't get away with that now. Times change, don't they?

I am voting for the guy that says build a bigger garrage. In the mean time ride it to a couple of shows/rallys etc. and put a 4 sale sign on it!

Already working on the Garage thing, but it ain't happening right now.

Thanks everybody for your help, the books was missleading, as I suspected. I think I might just get to keep her.

Thanks again,

PS I'll pass on the bus ticket
