Harley has bought or bought into the Lehmann Trike Co. of Canada and will be selling Lehmann conversions through the Harley dealerships.
A hack's better riding, roomier and more versatile plus you don't ruin a bike to add the third wheel.

Think it out Greg.
In simple terms:
A sidecar is, overall, better riding being as it has two tracks and not three.
Roomier is a given
More versitle? No doubt here.
And the bike itSELF is not CUT IN HALF as when adding a trike (Ruined as lonnie stated)
So ..opinions? Nope...just facts 🙂

Since I have 3 sidecars and no trikes I guess I agree with you. However, trikes are MUCH more popular the sidecars. I have learned over the years that when a majority has a different opinion they might not be wrong. Also, I have never drivin a modern trike, so I cannot really verify whether they ride better. So, to me, the comments are opinions.

I have. I've owned a couple and ridden some of the new stuff out there. The comments here are accurate. I've also been stopped frequently by trike owners who regret their decisions or want to trade with me. The only people I know who really like there trikes are the VW and V8 crowd and a couple folks who never travel and never carry passengers.
Trikes are more popular only because of the marketing, which is the lesson sidecar manufacturers need to learn.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate your opinion. It is also the one I tend to beleive. However, I have also received numerous opinions from others, including some who are very very knowledgable about sidecars, that in balance, trikes are esaier to learn and safer in emergencies. Unfortunatley there doesn't seem to be a lot a facts out there. I personally wouldn't get a trike for a couple of the reasons Claude mentioned, (luggage room) plus the more normal seat is better for Connies' Fibromyalgia. My original post was partly in jest, since a bonafide question had been asked, and the reply was rather OT (as are mine). Still, if the facts were there, sidecars would be more popular. Keep in mind, many of the popular trike companies started out with sidecars, and have either added trikes (or converted) since that is what sells. I had a long discussion with David Hannigan on this subject when I picked up my GTL. However, for me, sidecars are less expensive and way more cool.....I just seem to love anything remotely associated with motorcycles.

i understand there is a class action to stop the leahman hd deal because they were going to make the local franchises wait many months for product and cater to hd

cant say i blame them

all entitled to opinions but why is a chevy bettern ford
for vacation traveling i like my side car but most of the time i am solo so i take a trike
as far as 2 tracks not 3 imho thats horse hockey
but thats me as
there is no question whatsoever the average person can learn to drive the average trike easier than the average sidecar
as for the ride it self an independent suspension trike can suck up a bump with less "bump" to the driver than what you will get from a rig or a 2 wheeler simply because you are sitting more centered over the wheel on the non trike
and as a rule bikes are NOT CUT in half to make a trike while the ones i have would be a bit of work to make back into a two wheeler most if not all conversions are bolt on and can be removed and put back to a 2 wheeler certainly more work than removing a hack but it can be done

and this can be considered a drawback but there are people spending over 30k on trikes so there must be a draw of some sort (or perhaps a fool and his money are soon parted) so folks cant be to worried about "ruining" a bike

thats my story an im stickin to

an let the flamin begin lol

Let's not forget the funk factor. Hacks = lots o funk. Trikes = none.

Serioulsy 'funk factor' is huge 🙂 But ones man's funk may be the other man's treasure.

To me comparing sidecars and trikes is an apples and oranges deal. They are worlds apart and both have a certain appeal for different reasons. Funk and practicality can be debated on both sides and it will all boil down to each his own.
I do feel that in this country sidecar manufacturers in general have historically failed as far as marketing goes towards the general motorcycling public. Much of what has been felt concerning sidecars being so hard to handle has been wrong. In fact, sadly, some sidecar training itself has been at fault in times past as it has painted a picture that you have to be a gynmnist to operate one of these things. (I can only assume what your conversation with Dave amounted to Greg)
Anyhow I think trikes are cool and of course really love sidecars.
On the horizon it is very possible that the up coming reverse trikes will take over a huge portion of the market share of both ....keep your eyes open 🙂
Peace

well, Britney Spears music is popular, that doesn't mean its GOOD. Orange Country Choppers are popular, that doesn't mean that they are GOOD. Sad fact is, most folks don't know a darned thing about sidecars OR trikes, so they make their choices for the wrong reasons.

In the United States an automobile or truck is a vehicle with 4 (or more) wheels.
Any motorized road vehicle with 2 or 3 wheels is designated as a moped, motor scooter or motorcycle. Regardless of wheel location or axle count.
In Great Btitain the Morgan three wheelers and perhaps others with 3 wheels may have been licensed (licenced) as automobiles.
By the same token, some early motorcycles in the US were called automobiles.
