FUEL CELL IN SIDECAR
HELLO AND HAPPY HOLIDAY'S, HAS ANY ONE HAD ANY LUCK WITH PUTTING A FUEL CELL IN A HARLEY SIDECAR ? IF SO CAN YOU HELP WITH THE SIZE (GALS) DIMENTIONS MOUNTING POINTS AND WHAT TYPE OR SIZE FUEL PUMP WORKS BEST.THANKS, JOE
Never tried a Fuel cell but to save room and have a reserve I have used a "Tour Tank" mounted to the luggage rack which saved sidecar storage room and was easily removed when not on a long run. Looked just like a small bedroll and was transferable from my RK rig to my FXDL solo when I wanted to two wheel tour.

No experience with a Harley, although I do have aux fuel on both my Goldwing and V Strom. I used to use fuel cells when I was racing (cars), the idea is pretty cool for a sidecar, particularly if the safety issue of aux fuel bothers you a lot.I would think a great location would be to get one fabribated in the same shape/size as the right side fiberglass saddelbag (assuming you have an FLH model), might hold 5 gallons easy. Then get it painted tp match. (The ones we used were aluminum, welded/rivited together. We would get them made in the exact same shape as the car fuel tank, so they "looked" stock). The only issue might be that the foam in the cells need replacing periodocally (ot at least it used to ) so you would want to make the top of the cell removable.
HEY GREG, NO BAGS, I WAS THINKING ABOUT BEHIND THE SIDECAR SEAT WITH AN EXTERIOR FILL POINT. I CANT FAB METAL BUT THERE ARE MANY POLY TANKS AVAILABLE.I WOULD PUMP UP TO THE CROSS OVER TUBE UNDER THE TANK. IT SHOULD WORK. THANKS, JOE
Check out these threads. While perhaps not exactly what you had in mind there are some very good ideas there. There has been some spirited discussion about this on this board. Check back even further in the tech discussions for more.

THANKS BOB, THAT WAS A GREAT HELP.
I put a small gas tank in my Motorvation Spyder, mounted it behind the seat, holds about 2 1/2 gals. I use it for the FLAMES shooting from my fishtail exhaust pipes!!!Doc.

Hey Doc!
You weren't touring in the Idaho forests last summer were you?
How about in Malibu, CA recently?

Hey Lonnie, I always make sure what's behind me, though I did fire up a camping tent this last summer (it was done by request) and no, nodody was in it when it went up, Doc.
Attached is a picture of Doc (David) doing a flame demo out in front of the shop. Note that the ball of fire gets much larger than shown...lol.
The (Flameouts) used to be quite popular in Texas and California in the middle 50"s with some Hotrodders and the Custom Car crowd. Very good for a fat ticket in Oakland, CA at the time (as were Wolf Whistles and "Dago" front ends with the headlights less than 22" above the roadway).
A model airplane glow plug or a spark plug was inserted in each exhaust pipe for ignition and the flames were generated by residual gas fumes in the system or for a greater effect, turning off the ignition momentarily would produce a spectacular (although somewhat dangerous) burst of flame.
