Friendship I upgrade
I purchased a 79 Goldwing with a Friendship I side car on it. Right now the Goldwing has been stripped to the frame and is starting to go back together - replacing worn out bits and pieces as needed.
I may have been dreaming but I thought I found a upgrade sub frame for the Frendship I that would give me the same suspension of the Friendship II and the ability of mounting a brake.
Has anybody run across a web side that has something like this?
There was a suspension upgrade available for years that converted the old 1988 and earlier CSC torsional suspension to a trailing link coil over shock setup.
1988 was the last year for the torsional strap swing-arm and the flimsy marble sized ball and collet sidecar mounts.

I have a ton of pictures and stuff to upgrade a freindship. I had one and sold it to buy a escort cheap but was considering the upgrasde to a brake, suspension and Tilt and collected pictures and info. Send me an email and I will send them to you.

We replace the original 'torsion bar' area with a specially machined spindle and provide a reworked swingarm attached to a newly manufatured hub.
Then we run a splined end tubular torsion bar across under the sidecar frame inside a torsion tube with bushings at each end. The torsion bar has an arm linked to the sidecar swingarm with heim ends. This is the suspension. On the bike end of the torsion bar there is a threaded 'stop' to provide manual tilt adjustments.
Have done three of these conversions just recently they are quite popular and a great way to 'save' a good sidecar..
Note that th etorsion bar could be replaced with a coil over shock once th eswingarm is done. This would not allow a tilt adjustment as easily as wiht the torsion bar conversion. Yes, it could be instaleld with the use of a linear actuator but space within the confines of the fender is a concern as well as costs.
Either way will work.
What ever came of the suspension work I am looking to update my suspension with the shock on the bike side
Thanks to the folks at Florida sidecar I have photos of the upgrade.
