Doug Bingham sidecar replacement Shock Absorber
My 1978 Honda CX500 sidecar shocks are leaking, and the shock has no name or description. Has an M14 upper mount and an M10 lower mount. The coil over shock is 14" from top to bottom (surface to surface, not eye to eye). Any thoughts on where to find them or have them rebuilt? Doug passed in 2016 so all his websites are shuttered. THANKS.

The answer you seek is a HAGON shock. If you are in the UK, they are very easy to find. If you are in the US, or other countries, very easy to order on online.
HOWEVER....Tom T says his CX500 sidecar SHOCKS...as in plural, are leaking. Just how many shock(s) does your sidecar have on it ?
Typically a "sidecar" has ONE shock, but I think you are really talking about the rear shocks of your 1978 Honda CX500.
If you are talking about the rear shocks on the bike itself, those size and length of shocks are readily available on many sites.
I would tend to still replace them with HAGON shocks, but there are 100's of aftermarket shocks available for us on that bike.

+1 for Hagen assuming what you need is available for size from them.
If they don’t have the exact size that will work (have been some threads discussing how to find modern shocks to fit vintage sidecars recently), and your shock bodies are fit to rebuild, two shops come to mind:
Ted Porter’s: beemershop.com or Klaus at EPM Performance. Epmperformance.com
happy hunting!
BTW my first bike was a 79 CX500 custom with the 2.5 gallon tank. I could only go 100 miles before refueling but my hands were numb from the high frequency vibrations anyway. I kind of miss it, but I looked like a gorilla on a child’s bicycle with it.

Thanks for the replies. I apologize - shock absorber is singular, and it is the one mounted on the sidecar wheel. I sent an email to Hagon with the specifications.
