Custom Made Sidecars
I ordered a new custom made Motorvation Formula sidecar on Nov 10, 2012. I had chosen Motorvation because I believe it is superior quality, has beautiful lines, and meets or exceeds my safety requirements.... if I treat it with respect. I was told when I ordered it that it would go back of the line and would have to wait my turn to get the sidecar built. I still thought I'd at least have it by six months, but that was my uneducated figuring and wishful thinking.
I live about 3 hours SE of Sybley, IA. I've telephoned a couple times, but one response to my inquiry was "we don't have anyway of knowing", and the other response was "I have no idea" when it will get done.
I believe the owners and staff are genuine and honest persons, but couldn't they figure how many units that they did in a year and have an estimate on how many they generally produce in a month? Are the units so custom that they really can't tell how long it will take to get me back on the road?
But I guess my greatest concern is that I gave them my 2006 Kawasaki Nomad 1600 back in November to which the sidecar would be custom fitted. So I haven't been able to ride any motorcycle since Nov 12. I'm sure the battery is dead by now and I hope the seals have not dried out. I really miss it. I shouldn't have left it there, but I had no experience doing this. I also think that I was nervous and excited to be able to have ordered that fine Motorvation Formula.
Comments?
They warned you that you were in the back of the line. You might have waited until you had a tentative completion date before leaving your bike.
Better luck next time now that you are wiser.

Cancel your order and go get your motorcycle. And any down payment you may have made. Those answers are way too vague and not conducive to good customer relations. 7 months
and still waiting is not good.
At Least 7 months and they cannot tell you where you are or when it will be done. Poor customer service to say the least. I know what I would do.
I agree with Wolfhound. They shouldn't expect you to be satisfied with those evasive answers. They should be able to estimate when your S/C will be finished. You'd think they would tell you something even if it's off the top of their head. I would also be concerned about the condition of the bike. You know they're not servicing it. I would go get it if it were me. JMHO
I talked with them recently, and if I had ordered at that time, there were at least thirty ahead of me, and it would have been August at the earliest. Not sure why they would have needed the bike, I did not need to take mine, until side car was ready to mount, and I also have a Kawasaki.
Chose not to go that route, too exspensive for me at this time. I was lucky, I think, found a nice used California fifteen minutes from home. Getting mounts from Jay at DMC.
New York Bear, it sounds like a good decision to me. You will be happy with the mounts from Jay and DMC. They do excellent work. I am very happy with the sidecar and mounts I received from Jay. I have a M72C.
Is Motorvation under new management or merely swamped with orders?
Mary usually runs a good ship with a quality product, is she still at the top?
I haven't been there since 2005.
Phelo,
I believe they are merely swamped with orders. I didn't mean to cause any disrespect of Mary or her crew. These are all quality folks producing a high quality sidecar. I'll gladly wait any length of time to be the owner of a new sidecar from Motorvation. I miss my bike and I think I will go get it and bring it back when it is time to attach the sidecar. That's all I need to do. I was jumping the gun when I left the bike and was not aware of how long it would take. Thanks for your comments.
I have a motorvation Spyder sidecad that I bought used. When I got the side car I was warned by the guy I bought it from, that the folks at motorvation could be rather course on the phone. That information proved correct. However thay will come threw on ther comitments. They also make a very good product.
I just stopped in as I was driving by. I got a great tour from Chris, Mary was very nice as well. I spent about an hour talking with them. Nice folks in person, can't speak to how they come across on the phone.
I wrote the initial post on this thread 5/31 and Mary called me on 6/04 and advised me that the sidecar was finished and attached to my bike. I went and got my bike and magnificent sidecar the next day! It is truly beautiful and is more than I had hoped for. Before I went home with the bike and new sidecar, Gary gave me his full attention and provided me a strong basis on how to handle my new way of driving. He did not try and rush through anything. I was very, very pleased with everything about my experience with Motorvation Engineering. I was nervous about the 3 hour trip home, but managed to not hit any mailboxes or parked cars. I'll post some photos ASAP!
good to hear. looking forward to the pictures
Glad that every thing worked out for you. Interesting that you made your first posting about this on 5/31 and got a call that the unit was ready on 6/04.
Coincidence? However, all is well that ends well so be careful and enjoy your new set up.
