Air vents for side car?
Hello,
Sorry if this was covered before. I'm looking to add an adjustable fresh air vents on a Motorvation Roadster sidecar. Any ideas to keep my posse happy! In floor, hood scoop or in windshield. Ideally it would be easy to install without looking jerry rigged. Any thoughts?
Maybe down low on the side of the nose of the car between the car and bike. Be sure to provide some kind of water stop that will drain out under the car. NACA ducts do a fair job of not catching any water to begin with.
You could also add a high-volume fan to draw air through a duct that faces rearward.
What about colder weather? I made up my own heater with a fan for my Spyder hack. It tapped into the bike's water system. Just shut off the water valve to use for summer ventilation.
Many folks use circular aircraft vents from Aircraft Spruce http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/ap/vents_inlets.html in the windshield. Another common solution is a vent in the floor facing the rear. Place the vent so there's no chance of sucking in exhaust gasses. Make sure you provide a way to close the vent. For some reason lots of folks don't think about that.

in my opinion that sidecar is ideal for a hood scoop as it has the design flow already. I would not cut into the windshield if it were mine.
I have a Motorvation FII and after seeing another one that someone here did I added a small hood scoop to mine, I used a RV grey tank valve as a water seal and flow control valve
My wife loves it as she can control the air flow at any given time. the scoop was for a small Honda car, not sure which one but there are tons of different styles out there
the other thing you have to decide is where you want to cut your hole for air flow. I don't think the bike side is a good idea as it could pull engine heat if it was not forward enough
the floor works good but in my opinion interferes with,,, well the floor,, and anything on the floor would restrict it's air flow
just my 2 cents worth, by the way nice posse
I like Ace's solution. Very clean and "factory looking". [Now if he could just get that alternator thing working... a VERY inside joke]

yes and much funnier now than it was then 😉
thanks to all the great people involved it all ended well
Thanks folks. I really like the scoop idea. Thanks for the pictures too!
I bought sidecar with air scoop installed on front floor. Scoop made with abs plumbing pipes. Not fancy but works and you can't see it.
Update
After a bit of research, I decided to go with a vent from Florida sidecar products. It was a bit unnerving to cut a 4-1/2" hole in my sidecar. One problem I ran into, the screws that come with the kit did not have a large enough head to hold vent ring in due to the sponginess (if that is a word) of the rug and curve of the body. I picked this screw up at HD that did the trick.
This vent works really well. My doggies approve! Here's a few pictures. Sorry about the dog hair ??

Looks good Mike
