A newbe member from Italy

Dear reader,
I feel I was lucky to individuate in the web the existence of your Association and forum.
To present myself, I am both a newbie member, at present living in Italy, and also an old crab since I just turned into his eighty-ninth springtime; for being a retired Automotive Project Engineer by trade and a retired Formula 3 gentleman rider, lifespan gave me the opportunity to drive and own many cars and bikes, but never a sidecar rig.
This changed a few months ago when chance made me discover and purchase, from a dealer in the UK, motorbike rig based on a 1992 Harley Davidson Electra Drive Classic coupled to an absolutely superb sidecar. The rig was just imported from its sole owner in Japan, it's loaded with accessories, in her life has only covered 74K kilometers and, believe me, her pristine original conditions are such that she looks as she was 6 months old... π
Tough, in such a positive contest, I am unable to determine who the the sidecar manufacturer if might be, so I'll return to the forum to ask members for competent advice as soon as I'll be allowed to post pictures.
Thanks for your attention and best regards. Β

Arnaldo, I'm glad to see you made it to the forums, I am always happy to help you. Just reply once more and you will be permitted to post some pics of your beautiful rig for all to see. Perhaps our members can help you identify the manufacturer.Β

Welcome! 🍻Β
There is another gentleman from Italy on the forum as well.Β Hopefully you two can meet up.Β What an amazing country to enjoy! 😎Β
Hold my keyboard and watch this! π

Thanks Jerry and Sheath for your posts and for advising there is another association member from Italy.
Italy is a long and narrow country, a chance to meet depends from where this member lives.
I reside at present near the town of Asti, in the Piedmont region, that is north west.
I'm glad to see from the forum script that I've now permission to attach files to my posts, as Jerry suggests I reckon I'll jump to the opportunity to ask members for advice on my Electra Drive rig, by opening a new thread.
All the best... π

Welcome "new" member .
Sounds like you have had an interesting life.
And it will have a little more adventure.

Thanks Brstr for your words of welcome!
You are right, if I look back to a lifespan involving eighty-ninth springtimes I can tell it was, and still is, interesting and enjoyable.
To talk about sidecars... in the few winter miles insofar covered riding the 1992 HD Electra Drive Classic rig, she taught me that, to master her driving, I'm to learn new skills...Β
Hoping that my broken English makes sense I mean that turning a corner when riding a sports bike (I keep in the garage a racing Ducati 1098S and a Hayabusa), needs pushing hard on the pedals and lean on the handlebar part inside the bend, to the contrary, when cornering on a rig, the driver stays comfortably seated and should rotate the entire handlebar.
Two conclusions:
- I'm going to teach myself this new driving style and,
- I remain convinced that life is a many splendor thing.😉Β

Arnaldo, WELCOME to the greatest show on Earth.
Your "English" is better than most people on here, so no worries, you communicate very well.
LOVE your spirit and attitude. I wish that people half your age could wake up every morning with that positive attitude.
At 89 years olde, and you have a Duc 1098S and a Hayabusa in the garage, you must be a very physically fit 89 years old man, so I applaud your willingness to ride those bikes.
I am younger than you, but still OLDE (ha ha ha), so my riding these days are on Honda Goldwings, so I can sit upright, and not be hunched over the handlebars.
I have owned many H-D ElectraGlides, and with the low mileage on the one you bought, you should find it reliable.
Yes, driving a sidecar rig is much different than riding a motorcycle, but that is what life is all about, as you are finding out, in experiencing different things.
NOW, send up a bunch of pictures of your new sidecar rig, so we can look it over, and tell you (as best we can) what sidecar is attached to that H-D ElectraGlide.
I am shipping a sidecar rig to Europe right this minute, it should land in Heidelberg, Germany around April 16th, and I will be over in Europe in 2 days, on Thursday, April 3rd, so will be there to meet my sidecar rig once it arrives. But I will be well north of you, so some day in the future we should plan to meet, say hello, and talk about sidecars in person.
The one I am shipping to Germany right now.
And the one I am keeping here in the US.

Arnaldo. In my avatar there's a red Italian beauty.Β She's 11 Springs older than you at a hundred years this year.Β It's a 1925 Fiat 509 Spyder.Β

Hello Brstr,
your 1925 Fiat 509 Spider is a 100 years old well kept beauty, my compliments... 🙂Β
As a rtd automotive project engineer, when it comes to cars I'm rather fond of younger specimen, cars made in the sixties and seventies, in times when I was in full swing and when Italian automotive project designs were their best.
I'm talking of eternal beauties to contemplate like the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider or the Ferrari 275 GTB...
I garage is one of them, she only 27 years old and she is German, designed by a Japanese... she is a BMW Z3M,
IMHO she an eternal beauty cars to look at, a roadster where the pilot seats close to the back axle with in front a very, very, veryΒ potent 3.2 liters, 6 cylinders in line BMW M Power engine.
To say that cars I see nowadays in dealer's showrooms look all the same, regrettably car design has flattened.
Your opinion?

Much the same really. ....
Not.
Mine can do in good condition 70 kph. Can yours go that slow?
Me thinks you never tried to find out. 😄
I have to agree on car styles.Β
Wh3n plastic replaced chrome a lot of style was lost.

Two pictures....the first one settles the debate of which car is best, that 100 year old Fiat, or the 27 year old BMW zed 3M.
Decision made...it is the 68 year old Moggie, or 1957 Morris Minor 1000 Salon Deluxe, which is a compromise between a 100 year old Fiat, and a 27 year old BMW, when mixed together, you get a 68 year old British car.
It's science, folks, and science is hard for some people. Β
Β
Next up we have this 1992 Harley-Davidson FLHTC with British sidecar attached on the wrong side. You can't say it's the RIGHT side, so if it's not the RIGHT side, then it must be the wrong side....but I'm not taking "sides" in this.
This is the new rig that Arnaldo recently bought. He was shy about sharing pictures of it, and somehow made the mistake of posting a picture of his 27 year old BMW zed 3M....but this is his new sidecar rig.
The sidecar looks to be British to me, but...what do others think, or...Bruce down under, what do you thunk ?

That is a beautiful Sidecar rig.Β Really like the paint work. 🤩Β
As a young man of the '70s I was a fan of '50s & '60s British sports cars.Β Inexpensive to buy. They always seemed to break down at the most opportune times... Friday night with a date.Β 😍Β Hard to duplicate that with any other vehicle, ever.Β
Now I prefer a competent vehicle in snow and icy conditions that doesn't break down.Β Growing up sucks.Β 🤣Β

Hmm thunk thunk thunk.
Sounds like flat tire oh sientific one.
Perimeter frame looks Watsonian Squire.
The body looks more Squire.
The airscoop says something, not sure what.
Could well be made on the continent somewhere.Β
Hopefully will see some better pictures soon.Β

Well, as my Z3M roadster was built in 1998 the BMW US factory in Spartanburg, by comparison to your FIAT she is a "modern" vehicle.
You asked me id she may run that slow, answer is yes, even much less... 😉Β
In spite of boostingΒ top speed limited to 155 mph, she will potter along in fifth gear at 1000 rpm, which is one of the advantages of seating behind a BMW "M Power" type of engine.
Plastics can be useful in several area of vehicle design but I agree with you when plastics replace chrome...
