You may have seen my recent posts in the "Welcome" and "Introduce" forums.  I haven't been on this board for a while but wanted to offer one of my rigs here first. I may put this rig up on BaT if no one here is interested but I would prefer to sell it to someone that actually knows what a sidecar is and how to ride a rig.

I have a 2012 Triumph Thunderbird that I bought new on October 28, 2014, from a dealer in Georgia that was going out of business. It had 1 mile on the odometer at the time. In November of that same year, I rode the bike to Hannigan Motorsports and purchased a Hannigan Classic to be fitted to the Tbird (and painted to match). I left the bike there so they could engineer a mount for the Tbird and match the paint, then picked up the completed rig on January 14, 2015, riding it back to my house.  The bike currently has 2,234 miles on it so that means the Hannigan has roughly 2,100 miles on it.

I already had a Bonneville/Cozy rig but I bought this rig so that I would be able to have my (then) 75 pound golden doodle ride with me. (The Cozy was a little too “cozy” for my big guy.) In order to make that easier, I asked Hannigan to install quick-release bolts to a bracket on the bottom of the tub so that all I had to do was make a half turn with a screwdriver to 4 bolts to remove the seat and my pup could jump right into the tub.  Unfortunately, his age has gotten to the point that he can no longer jump in to ride with me and I have finally gotten over the sentimental hump that has made me keep this rig for 2 years longer than I should have.

I am asking $9,500 for the rig to be picked up in Franklin, TN.  I was planning to do an oil/filter change on it before it is sold but thought that the buyer may prefer to do that so (yeah, I am a little anal about those things as well) so, if that is the case, I will knock $125 off to compensate you for your time and costs doing that service.

I have only serviced this bike once and obviously ride it sparingly.  It has been in a temperature-controlled garage virtually all of its life except for a weekend trip that my wife and I took in it to NC.  I am attaching detailed photos so that you can see all the niggles I could find.  There are a few scratches from my letting the convertible top support bar scratch the paint around the mounting hole, a very small dimple on the trunk (which, I think, has been there all along), and a few very minor scratches around the trunk lid.  There are also 2 spots on the right hand side of the Hannigan where there is a small (+/-1/3”) scrape and a small area that was pushed out when the screw fastening the cup holder punched through the outer skin.  I have focused on these in the pix.  I decided not to try to cover them with a Sharpie (which would probably hide most if not all of the scratches).  I want the buyer to see exactly what I see.  I think it looks great and these issues are easily fixed but I am not going to try to hide them.

With all that said, here are the details:

Asking: $9,500 ($9,375 if you don’t want me to do the oil/filter change)

2012 Triumph Thunderbird ABS - clear title in my name

All standard except:

-Switch Blade shield installed (original windshield included with sale)

-Disc brake with quick disconnect

-Electric camber control for road camber adjustment

-12V accessory plug

OH Wow! That IS a great value! I loved my Tbird Storm, but realized the cruising sitting position with forward controls was rough on my low back when hitting bumps. I missed being able to push down on my feet to protect my aft on a standard or sport touring position. I know there are some relocating floorboards and controls available. I may have to consider this. Was looking at Beemer rigs but I love Triumphs. Had a 1050 Sprint, 800 Tiger and my last was that Storm. Was looking at K bike setups with a Hannigan for some sporty twisty road riding. You have it setup the way I would want, appreciate you have the Camber control. I need to consider this. It would be an epic ride back home.

Have to say, this setup works pretty well from city to highway.  I mentioned I dragged my wife to NC in this rig and she sat in the Hannigan just reading her iPad and drinking her tea while we buzzed down the interstate at ... mmmm ... 70 mph (or thereabouts). 😂

@miles-ladue Just noticed your tagline.  What?  All 7 continents?  Please tell me how you did Antarctica.  I have 5 under my belt, the 6th is scheduled for January, but I had given up on Antarctica.  Can't figure out how to send you a pm so I used the little arrow thingy to tag you.

croleyg @croleyg, the answer is quite simple. On one of my 4 separate adventures from Seattle to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska...to Ushuaia/Tiera del Fuego, Argentina, and then back to Seattle...I hooked up with a small group of guys in Ushuaia that already had plans to take a cargo ship down to Camp McMurdo, on Antarctica, as they knew of a guy that worked there that had a Suzuki DR-650, and for a $ 20 USD bill, he would let you ride his bike around the 5 mile loop of Camp McMurdo, so that you could say...I rode a motorcycle in Antarctica. We left our bikes in Ushuaia, booked passage on the next cargo ship, and spent about 6 hours on Antarctica, then took the same cargo ship back to Ushuaia.

That was also the same adventurous ride where I took my 2003 Honda Africa Twin 750 (Euro edition) "through" the Darien Gap, both directions. Will never do that again. You don't "ride" through the Darien Gap....you paddle, rope it through the trees, drag it through the swamp, etc.

Now, back to the regular scheduled selling of this BEAUTIFUL 2012 Triumph Thunderbird ABS w/Hannigan Classic sidecar

Well, in my old age my desire to "git 'er done" is sometimes overwhelming.  I've had a couple of lookers but no bites on the Hannigan rig.  While I think the price I put on it is a good one, I really want this one out of my garage SO..... before I put up with the yahoos on BaT, I would be willing to take a bit of a haircut on my asking price in order to sell to someone who knows (and loves) this kind of riding.

With that in mind, if someone will make me a reasonable offer on this baby within the next couple of weeks, I will take it and run.  If a decent offer comes in I will accept it without waiting around to see if someone offers me more (bc that isn't the way to do it).  You all know what a "decent" offer would be so I'm not gonna put any floor on it.

Let me know if you, or someone you know, is seriously interested and let's get this out of my garage so I can get to my other stuff that needs selling.

Thanks, all.

Well, I have put the rig on CycleTrader for a bit more than I asked here.  I am still willing to entertain offers from sidecar.com members (yeah, y'all are special) and I advertised on CycleTrader that I would be willing to ride the rig to meet the buyer as long as the meeting point is within 350 miles of Nashville, TN.  If any of that changes your thoughts, let me know.  I really want this rig out of my garage and off my plate.

I really think this is a case of the right person not shopping for a bike now.

This is a great deal on a very nice rig - professionally built and cared for in a way a German would be proud of.

I hope CycleTrader works out for you.

If not try again next season.  It has been a strange year for motorcycle sales especially anything niche or medium to high value.

A couple of my friends basically gave away bikes to get them sold this year.

Well, I posted the bike/Hannigan on CycleTrader and had it sold the same day. Delivering it tomorrow. It just needed a new home. Thanks all.

Thanks.  Don't know if he has found our site yet or not. He's new to sidecars so I will pass on the suggestion.
