St. Augustine, FL
Hello to all, new to the forum and sidecars (7 months to date) but looking forward to a new learning/riding experience.
Purchased my 1998 Moto Guzzi California with Hannigan Classic rig in August this year and though I'm still learning all the finer points of driving the rig, I'm having a ball with it. Initially purchased as an experiment to determine whether a sidecar has a part in my life, it's been slowly growing on me with each ride. The rig shares garage space with my beloved 2006 BMW K1200GT.
I've never owned a MG before, majority of my bikes have been Japanese, with the occasional BMW thrown in there. Participated heavily on VFRDiscussion, CBR1100XX, FJR1300, and BMW Sport Touring forums in the past, and completed my SaddleSore 1000 in 2006. Riding has been and god willing, will continue to be, a huge part of my life. Living in Florida, even North Florida, allows me the ability to ride almost every day and I take advantage of that. I also make every effort to get up to Deals Gap once or twice a year, especially when I need an escape/twisty fix on those beautiful roads.
At the moment, I am currently contemplating transferring the Hannigan over to my BMW, but giving it time to weigh the pluses and minuses... even though I'm semi-retired, getting older and slower, I still feel a preference to the sewing machine smoothness/performance of the BMW K motor as compared to the character laden/tractor like vibe of the 'Guzzi. Having said that, there is some fun found in the differences as well, so who knows...?
For the most part I do most all of the wrenching and problem solving myself, and while I can't say I totally enjoy a day or two in the garage, I do believe it helps me to maintain sanity and learn how the bike works.
Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to walk amongst you giants.
Welcome aboard Walt, glad to have you with us. Good looking rig you have there.
Hi Walt,
We bought our first sidecar 4 months ago and also live in St Augustine. We'll be at the CMA meeting at Adamec Harley by State Road 16 Saturday 3/21 with our rig from 9:30-1pm.
Let's meet up.
