Gravatar eats avatar?

I am pussled and don't get it right.

Why you have to subscribe to a special service "gravatar" for just put your avatar photo? My old photo is all that is left from my marriage gift to my wife. 2 painted Rice grains.  I don't get this gravatar thing, and cannot even understand their instructions. sounds like chineese to me.

It does seem like an extra step to have to sign up and into another program to get an avatar up on the forum. I stumbled through it and got mine up. Not sure how to help you do the same Peter Pan. Wish I could help. Hang in there and don't give up....
