Can anyone tell me the correct name/term for these "grommet pegs"?

I need to install some on my side car so that I can install a vinyl top.

I was told they are a "hardware store" item but since I don't know the name I can't seem to find them even in the grommet section.

Please help.

Hard to tell in the photo but they look like they are not a normal upholstery item, We have in the past used some thing similar to this when working with tonneau covers that have grommets in them rather then normal fasteners. These are often found on Chinese sidecars. What we have used is the round balls that are the pivots for gas spring lift struts as the factory plastic ones are of very poor quality.

Similar knobs like these are available from some motorcycle accessory outlets like J.C. Whitney. Used for attaching bungee cords and cargo nets.

I tried a few different searches....and the best I came up with was "ball head screw" ....good luck!

These fasteners are not uncommon in the auto and marine upholstery biz. I'd try www.perfectfit.com. In fact, try this page http://www.perfectfit.com/15333/LifttheDot-Fasteners.html

Good luck,

These are the most uncommon, not uncommon bits I have come across!

J.C. Whitney as far as I can tell, only has these, obviously unsuitable for a cover grommet: http://www.jcwhitney.com/cobra-mc-bungee-knobs/p3074653.jcwx?filterid=c14523j3

Ball head screw, is the closest so far but not many seem to be a good size.

Thank you Michael! I am worried that there is not enough collar on the "dot" post to hold the vinyl cover on securely. Ball head screw is the closest so far. Amazing that none of us can find the exact type of fastener. They must get them from somewhere?

Is this what you are looking for?

http://www.dotfasteners.com/lift_the_dot.html

I used the search term "Turn Button" which is a rectangular post with a top that turns 90* to hold the oval grommet placed over it. I know you aren't looking for turn buttons, but anyone who carrys them would most likely cary the dots you need.

No not quite.

Notice in the photo the Velorex "Ball head bolt" has a large ball, with good extension and a thin neck which I believe are required to hold the cover well in place.

So far none of the sources posted have anything that would have this kind of holding power and size.

I have seen th eones Lonnie is talking about on many bikes, chrome bungee "knobs" on the fender struts of many Harleys I have seen. I think my Sporty had some on it when I bought it I will see if I can findout where they came from.

You might contact Pete at Liberty and see where he gets the fasteners that hold the tono cover and apron for the windshield on Liberty cars. Very efficient and I think just what you're looking for.

I ordered a couple of the Harley bungee nuts to try out.

Tom, do you have a link to Liberty cars?
