Velorex 700 Mounts - Dumb Newbie Questions
All:
I'm in the process of mounting a V700 (with the stock, universal clamps & mounts) on a '74 CB750 Honda and have a couple of dumb newbie questions. Let me note that I'm a pretty good wrench, and a decent kitchen table engineer, but I'm brand new to hacks.
Q1 - regarding the upper mounts: The Velorex directions state the upper mounts should angle outwards from the car, and should not be parallel to each other. The only way I can locate the uppers puts the front angling outward to the downtube just below the fuel tank, but the rear upper mount angles in, making it roughly parallel to the front upper.
Is this a big deal?
Q2: Should the mounts feel rigid, or is a little flex in the car OK?
Feel free to verbally stone me. Thanks, CWB
To answer your second question , NO, there should be no flex in the mounting system. The bike and sidecar should be like one solid unit once all is assembled and in place.
Upper struts that angle away from one another provide better traingulation to resist movement or flexing. Unless a subframe is installed that will allow mounts to be placed in the optimal position this is not always possible.
The main goal in th emounting system is to provide a solid non flexing assembly. Secondary goal is to mount the sidecar in such a way as to allow any adjustments after mounting to be done easily.
Chris,
Drop me an email at nwsidecar@aol.com and I will send you pix of CB750/Velorex installations.

Nice little rig.
The top would look better with the bows installed tho'.

Looks Good Chris. Keep an eye on the mounts. Especially the rear lower at the frame of the sidecar.
Outa be a well matched rig and a lot of fun.
