velorex 562 install/pics needed
Hello,
Does anyone have some install pics or rigs with the velorex 562 that they can point me to. I am working on installing one on my R90S and need to look at a few more bikes with the car installed just to double check a few things. Thanks for all the help. Ryan
Ryan,
I have a 565 on a Honda Shodow 1100. You can see my mounts at

And the instructions are here

On your R90S you really should have a sub frame. We make one and have it in stock for this bike for use with the Velorex sidecar. Post /2 BMW frames are very thin tube and have been known to be damaged by the Velorex clamps.

Richard, thanks for the links. I will check them out.
Jay, I do have a sub frame, got one from NWSidecar. Thanks.
I installed one last year, on a sporty. You can ask us, HE HE we HE HE won't tell.
Take a look at my albums Hack'ns Hacks, I'm sure there are pix of beemers with 562's there.

Don't be afraid to make it wide for stabilty. Also keep an eye on that lower rear clamp on the sidecar frame...adding a reference mark to see when it slips is a good idea. yep, I wrote 'when'..lol. Unless it is installed just so it will probably move at some point. You can pin it or weld it. Woirst design mount ever made and has probably been in use since the wheel was invented.
Oh...think Ballast 🙂
Most of all have fun and be careful.
OK thanks everyone for the help. 🙂
I took the maiden voyage today. WOW. what a goofy invention this sidecar thing is. 🙂 I think the laws of physics went right out the window with this thing.
It took my father and I about 4 hours to get it setup. Mind you we have never setup a hack rig. 🙂 I swear that thing is a geometry nightmare. Tons of different adjustments and angles here and there. 🙂 Fun none the less.
So after getting it all bolted down, aligned close to where I think I might want it I had to take it around the block. No ballast yet, just a 154 pound Velorex hooked to an R90S. What a blast. Now it is time to get some ballast in it, no sense in learning to drive it with the incorrect weight.
I am going to drive around the neighborhood tomorrow with the correct ballast and see how it does before I start asking questions about head shake or lean in or out.
Right now the bike has about 1/2 inch lean IN. I set it up with no lean in and no toe in.
I also made a mark on the lower clamp mount so tomorrow I will find out what moved or slipped and why I ended up with some lean in.
The true test will be once the rig is weighted down properly.
Thanks again for the help. Ryan
Goofy is a real nice word for it on the first day. Keep working on the lean. Be thankfull for any help. On the second day you will find that lean and toe in can work against each other. Make small adjustments. take plenty of breaks, and above all have fun. Its your rig, make it your own!! Be sure to lift the sidecar wheel and let it bounce on your flat service after your adjustments. Drive it some and remeasure, Take breaks!!!
With this particular setup I'd start with about 1/2" toe-in measured at the bikes axles and 1 degree of leanout with the bike loaded.
You will probably need better rear shocks if using stock OEM ones now to keep the rig from wallowing in the turns and heavier viscosity fork oil.
Most of these bikes will require a steering damper to control head shake.
If you install one be sure it is mounted at a 90 degree angle from the front forks unless you have a leading link FE to eliminate "Bump steering".
