Steering Stabilizer?

Hello All, I have a Cozy Sidecar attached to a new model Bonneville. The car came with a large steering stabilizer that goes from the front forks to the sidecar. My question is, can I replace the original unit with the unit Triumph makes for my bike that only attaches to the bike, no sidecar connection? Or is there a reason for the bike to car connection? Thanks!!

I am by far not an expert but are both of them about the same size?

No, The one now is the orginal oil filled from India. The one I was looking at is a gas shock unit from the UK, it is smaller due to its placement on the bike only. Or are there and better quality units that may fit where the original is?

Many bike only OEM stabilizors won't handle the extra ocillation of bike and sidecar. They may slow it down some but not eliminate it.

That makes sense. Then who or where can I buy a quality stabilizer that will mount bike to sidecar?

Is the one you have now not doing the job? Do not know if it will work but the one that comes with my Harley sidecar is one used on VW.

It works just enough. It is crude and very large. I replaced the sidecar shock with a Hagon, night and day better in all aspects. Hopeing to do the same on the stabilizer.

Daft question perhaps but I take it you need a stabiliser? If the bars don't shake I wouldn't bother.
I had a BSA and Squire outfit that steered perfectly with the stabiliser, crude friction type, backed right off.
The Goldwing/Oxford outfit I replaced it with had vicious bar shake, cured with an EZ-Steer kit that also made the steering beautifully light.

The one on my HD car is quite big. My rig is my only transportation and if my situation ever improves I will get a set of raked trees.

Sid I have one now but it came with the Cozy and is made in India, quality is poor and it is way oversize. Wanted to replace it with a unit on the bike alone but will stay with one mounted to car and bike. But would like to purchase a quality one.

No, I am having the sidecar fender painted then the tub and fender pinstriped so everything is apart.

A guy at work said to get a Chevy steering shock and reuse the mounts. Really don't want to do trial and error.

A steering damper for a VW Beetle, the original Beetle that is, is a popular choice and should be easily available.

Sid, Do you reuse mounting or do you buy the whole VW setup?
