Spirit of America + GL1000 ?
Would a Spirit of America (I think Eagle?) be too small or light to pair with a 78 Honda GL1000?
Thanks,
Dan

Absolutely! You'd have to add so much ballast you'd collapse the poor thing. Unless you can move it way out away from the bike, I'd either look for a bigger sidecar or smaller bike.
The GL1000 and 1100's make excellent tugs!
Thanks for the info Mike, I'll keep looking.

Definitely not a good combo.
140# sidecar.

You could change the mounts, add some ballast, change to another wheel and beef up the suspension and get it to work. While at it possibly widen the body 6" or more.....nah...you are right, keep looking:-)
Back in the day, that is when I bought a '75 Wing from the first shipment we had a Spirit we had on a 750 Water Buffalo. I thought about it for about 10 minutes and sold the Spirit. Later that year I built my own sidecar for the GL1000 that was big enough for both kids and more suited for the heavy Wing than the Spirit could ever be without a lot of modification.
That old Spirit worked out real well on a 500 Yamaha twin though.
They were great little Hacks for the mid sized bikes of the day. 😉
