I am going to build a sidecar body and frame from scratch for a 1979 Suzuki GS850L. I have searched all over the internet for plans and or tips on building your own frame but I cant come across much that is useful. I have never driven a sidecar rig and do not have anyone I know that owns one I can look at. I have done my research on sidecar setup and driving theory. I have looked through pictures of frames for sale and various mounting hardware.

The body is easy this can be anything the main challenge here is aesthetics.

The frame itself is simple enough I will build it of square steel tubing I just want a small single passenger car big enough to comfortably hold someone about 5" tall or my dog, or camping gear. I will have to lay something out to get sizing measurements. Do different width and length units handle drastically different? Does wheel placement front to back come into play?

The linkage and mounting is where things get fuzzy. Basically the way I see it I need some way of attaching it that allows me to adjust both toe in and lean. I was thinking of modifying tie rod linkage from something with some stout suspension like a jeep. How many points of contact are recommended? anyone have any pictures of custom built linkage? I want something that is the most simple and study configuration possible. I have access to welding equipment and machine shop tooling I know my way around a metal shop. I have the skill set to build something I just don't know exactly what I need to make.

I did see a guy with a Ural in the back of his driveway when I was taking my dog for a longer walk than usual tonight. Perhaps I need to go knock on his door and ask for a closer look.

Jeff,
I'll drop you an email with some chassis pix and some suggestions.
