REBUIDING & RETRO FITTING A TLE

Tube? I've heard sidecars called rigs, hacks, outfits, chariots, etc but never a tube. I've heard the body refered to as a tub and the bike as a tug, but dude a tube?
Just messin' with ya! You did mean tub right?
It's OK. I've heard them called tubs or tubes among other things. Some of the early Goulding sidecars looked like they were made out of a smooth barrel with a round nose, sort of like a torpedo. It's all good among friends....ahhhh, say, do you have a reverse? LOL
Ha.
My 2 cents on reverse.... just think about where you're parking before you commit. I've had guys ask about reverse after watching me pull into a spot. My stock answer is always the same: Gravity...
Just roll past your parking spot, back in and let nature take it's course. On those rare occasions when you'd like a reverse there's always someone glad to help you roll out without asking. Great way to meet new folks, usually someone who rides. (Met a really nice lady that way)

if you read through the service manual - a 88 with a drum brake is just fine on a 03
so leave the brake alone & spend your time on stuff that will make a difference.
like mounting really right and getting it dialed in so it drives straight and true

Some other things came up the biggest was trying to match wheels. End result I’m going to buy 03 frame, axle, disk brake assembly and matching wheel, even with all that I’m still under 5-6K money wise. Right now, everything is stripped down and being painted. I work out of town, so it’s all a slow process, but little by little. Hell, HD has a 30 day + wait time on the frame alone. It’s funny though, when I first stared going into various HD shops when I said sidecar I got nothing but deer in the head lights look. I think most of them are getting educated as much as I am. LoL!!
Hey now, i've got reverse on my GL and I don't have to think about where I park. To connect a quick disconnect line all that is required is the correct size double banjo bolt to attach to the stock master cylender. Champion uses them on thier Daytona and Escort models.
Would you have reverse on your GL if it didn't come with it and a reverse gear was an expensive retrofit?
Probably not.
