raked triple trees..........
I'm ready to make the jump.....Liberty or Champion? OR any other ideas that anyone here might like to make................
If Champion makes a kit for your bike I would recommend their EZsteer.....the kit I installed on my Roadstar was well made .... billet trees...new bearings...even new grease!!...all the nuts and bolts required...good instructions,,,and you can reinstall all the OEM parts....like tins...windshield ...headlight etc:....mine are 6 degree
triple trees....
Mike....

paddler, please remind us again what bike you have for a tug. I done forgot.

Stock 2010-11 Harley Trike trees are the least expensive. Add a 1" spacer on top of the fork springs.

Thanks paddler. For what's it worth, on our Sportster, we installed trees from Hawg Halters sourced through our local sidecar dealer/installer that sourced them through Frankensein Trikes. Good product -- it appears their prices are similar to Liberty and Champion.

Hey Lonnie,
First of all, congrats on your retirement. As a guy who sits in an office all day, I can't imagine "retiring" from a job like yours.
Can you give me more info on the Harley Trike trees? Mainly the spacer on top of the fork springs. Does this spacer affect the strength of the suspension system? I've been considering the trike trees and the guy who is going to install them kinda cringed when I mentioned spacers. He recommends buying the longer fork tubes from the Tri-glide (he's not selling the parts, just doesn't like spacers). Are the spacers a Harley part or do they need to be fabricated?
Do you have a list, with part numbers, for everything needed?
Really appreciate all of your help,
Terry
P.S. my rig is a 98 FLHT with 08 TLE

i thought all the FLs had raked trees with a negative offset already. you need more? i thought this set up was designed in part for the possibility of hooking up one of their cars.
They gave up on the adjustable trees back in the early '80s when the Evolutions showed up. Started adding them when they went into the trike business. Now they've kissed the hacks goodbye.

not the adjustables, just raked. i thought they were raked and had a negative offset (fork tube behind the steering stem). ??? this gave a good amount of trail for stability but made for light steering. i thought.
The bass ackward trees still need to be raked for easy steering.

Guess I'll jump in on this one too. With the raked H-D trike trees do you have to use longer tubes or is that the reason for the 1" spacer? Does anyone have any idea how much the H-D trees cost?
With 5 degree rake the spacers will bring you back up to stock on a FLH. The trikes have longer legs, about 2" but they also may run with a different neck angle. With two car tires in back they sit different than a bike. Apples and oranges, but the trees will fit the solos and give you easy steering.

Thanks a lot for the info Lonnie. Is there any negative to using the spacer as opposed to the longer legs? Is the setup just as strong with the spacers? It sure would be cheaper to use the spacers.
Terry
The spacers actually put a bit more preload on te fork springs reducing front end dive a bit.
