I have a 02 Ultra with 06HD hack. I have been talking to some about raked trees. I have even talked to some that hate them. What I want to know what over stock degree trees are you running on your HD? Some say 5 degree over stock running at speed it takes very little input to make a big change in direction and is why they do not like them. So would 3 degree over stock be better?
Thanks
Jeff

Are different version available? I know there are different companies making and selling them but I thought they were all claiming they are 5 degree trees (Whatever that means). I would rather they say what the resulting trail is so they could be compared to each other and to the Tri-Glide.

The TriGlide trees have less rake resulting in slower steering. Also less tendency to oversteer. That may be the reason they still use the steering damper.
Some find the 5 degree trees require the pilot to pay more attention to their driving due to the quickness. At first there is a tendency to oversteer (similar to driving a vintage British sports car).
There is a short training period involved so one won't oversteer with the 5 degree trees. Sans a damper the steering is even lighter.

5 degrees means it has 5 more degrees then stock and so on.

Yes most only make 5 degrees but there are some that all so make 3 degree see link below. Some I have talked to where people on tricks and what some have told me that the 5 degree work great going slow but when they get to speed it takes very little input to make a big difference in the direction you are going. So I was wondering if maybe 3 degrees might not make the small input at speed so drastic.
Thanks
Jeff

Just wondering if you have ever drove a rig with a 3 degree over stock? Reason I am being so reluctant is the trees even the ones I listed I can get for $700 is more then what I live on in a month for the past two years which I am hoping will change and want to make sure I get what I want the first time.
Thanks
Jeff

None of my raked rigs have had less than 5's. Some here on the forums have installed the TriGlide trees. Maybe you can get some input on how they compare with the stock steering.

All of the Harley tree's have a lot more then 5 degree's of angle change to the forks as even from the factory Harley tree's have "rake" in them for two wheel use to get the look that harley wants.
The amount of angle change will change how much trail you end up with. Some one in the mid west may want more trail then some one who lives in Colorado.

Yes I know from the factory they have more then 5 degrees when we are talking about 5 plus degrees this is over the stock rake. Do to my heath and my wrist and arms I need to get mine where it turns easier now all I have to do is figure if I want plus 3 or plus 5. I ride all over North America so I have to find the happy spot.
Thanks

Does more trail make a big difference on trikes more os then rigs? So far the only ones I have talked to in person are guys on trikes. The reason I am asking as some have said the plus 5 degree makes the trike real responsive to small inputs and they said it was harder to ride at speed or is this something you have to get use to? If it where not for my situation I would try both and sell the one I did not use but a tree right now cost more then what I live on in a month.
Thanks
Jeff

It does not make any real difference if it is a trike or a sidecar. Once you are use to the light steering you will like it real light but it does take a while to get use to. My wife had a BMW R100S that I had reduced the trail down to only 1.2 inches due to the very narrow bars. Some people that had ridden sidecars for years found it almost not rideable. One person stuck with if for 2 hours and then found that it loved it that light. But it does take getting use to.

I only have about 3K with my hack on and now I really enjoy it. Matter of fact a week ago today coming home from a camp out I raised the hack wheel a little going 65mph on a two lane state highway. Thank the lord I did not freak out and road it out with out any problem. But there was a pinch mark on the seat from my butt garbing it. LOL
Thanks all for the input as I am far from and expert when it comes to rigs right now but I keep learning.
Thanks
Jeff
