Consider theoptions cl;osely. Vernon, as usual, pretty much naile dit. Platforms can be made to work and can be made to work well under various conditions. Weight distribution is a factor as is total weight. Suspension design can also be a factor. Abilty to easily adjust ride height is a good feature too for street =vs= off road. Addition of a swaybar helps a lot on hard surfaces ...not the best in the rough though but can be made to be unhooked on one end easily for the rough stuff.Lots of variable indeed. Some of which vcan be added at a later date if designed for initially.

Sidecar Brakes can be made to work well also but effectiveness varies
under different conditions. The seperate sidecar brake pedal is a good (and fun) setup if done right. If it is set so you have a choice to integrate or not with the pedals it can be very nice while providing you with options. If a sidecar is built with the idea of adding a brake later on it can be a good way to go.

Her's a suggestion...
If you want to haul gear around , consider a Vetter Terraploane...the entire top lid opens up from front to rear, allowing easy access to your gear.It also is great for a passenger.

Look at the classifieds on the Ural web board at the one that Dennis (aka Ivan Rider) has posted for sale. Man would that ever look good in my garage!

Bob,
Just wish the Terraplane opened the other way. It'd be great for Luke. I briefly considered Kurt's a couple of year's ago when he was selling it.

Hey Bob,
Can the passenger reach those latches, or do you have to get on and off the bike whenever they want out?

THanks for the info, but I couldn't find it. Might not be looking in the right spot. Do you have a link?

Thanks

sure the passenger can reach them from inside..just reach over the side. then push up on the lid...hydraulic rams open it up like a van tailgate.
I am installing a Stainless grab rail across the dash area, to help my wife pull the lid down once she is seated.
also a handle on the outside to assist lifting top from ouside.
Sometimes we make a quick stop at a store , and I stay with the bike and she pops it open and runs in.

Bob,
Yup, that's what I'm looking for, but used ones are VERY scarce. I've got a post in the "Sidecars Wanted" section.

Ron,
I have a Formula II that I may sell (have another offer on it pending right now) but it is not a flip front. Could be converted to one but some work would be involved.
Email me at cstanley@sunlink.net

Thanks for the offer Claude, but think I'll pass. I've considered having the California cut to resemble an FII, but the body-shop guy who would do it is swamped with work right now. I've posted some pictures in my album that Rick made of how it would look. I haven't seen Kurt recently to show him, but fiberglass isn't his medium anyway.
Thanks again.
Ron

PS: I really didn't mean to highjack this thread! Sorry!

Claude - oh it's NOT worked out yet. I don't have anyone to "cut and mend" the fiberglass hack so I guess I'd better start doing back exercises and weight training to help Luke get up.
Glad you sold you FII.
Ron
