I finally got the Hack hooked up to the Thruxton. I have some adjustments to make (so that I dont get the knee slapper going on like I did when I first took it for a test spin!). But the overal big part is almost done. Anyway, just wanted to share some pictures of the rig.

Cheers,
Chans

Looks like an American Spirit Eagle sidecar. I use to have one. I never got mine hooked to the bike though, I sold it to K-Ray in Chicago because I got different one. Very nice setup, they look like they belong together. That knee slappin' typically happens at those low speeds around 25 mph or slower. Just keep a firm grip on the handlebars at the slower speeds and then you can ease up a little as you gain speed. I don't know if you can put a steering dampener on it to cure that problem, that may be a question for Lonnie or Claude. Take care, Les

I to thought that the hack and bike look good together. As for the knee slapper, it was more than just a little, it was HUGE.....so that leads me to believe that I need to adjust a lot more. I think the hack is actually fighting the direction of the bike so I need to re-measure the thing. Heck, I am stoked that I have made it this far. Thanks for everyones advice on here as well as other web sites. I have never had a sidecar or experience so this is completely new to me........but I already love it!!

Cheers,
Chans

That's a good looking rig, they look good together, I think part of your tank slapping problem is the lack of leverage on the bars, there just to narrow, maybe if you had a earls type fork on it you could get by with the clip on bars,,,maybe, it would definitely help.

Thanks for the heads up on the bars. I heard this from another person as well so I am going to look into getting wider bars ASAP. Do you think a fork brace would help this out at all though?

Wider bars, trail reduction, LL's, tweak bar, steering damper.
All are methods used to alleviate tank slappers.
Also you can: Check tire wear and balance, rim for trueness, slide forks further down into triple trees to reduce trail, use longer shocks in back, tighten fork head bearings so front end doesn't flop, check for swing-arm bearing slop.

Thanks for everyones help on answering all the questions. I added my steering dampener and the wobble has almost gone away. Sweet!!

Here are a few more shots of the set up. I took the kid and wife (seperate times) around the block and they loved it (the wife said she would rather ride her triumph BUT she said it was cool!)

That is one fantastic looking combination. Of course I'm partial to Spirit Sidecars and Trumps anyway so put them together and , well... too cool!

Chans,
I think I said this on ADVrider but I have always liked the vintage cafe look and you sure nailed it down with your rig...GREAT JOB!
As far as wider bars go , yes, they will give you mroe steering leverage. If you have gotten the wobbel where it is tolerable with th edamper installed you might be okay anyhow. Some tolerate low spped wobbels better than others and some tolerate hard steering betther than others.
My current rig is a BMW R100R with K100RS bars on it that I have widened a little. It wobbles and steers hard but is fin ewith me for now. It has on eof our Freedom Cruiser sidecars on it..see attached picture. I think you sure got me beat as far as 'the look' goes πŸ™‚

Claude,

Thanks for the compliment on the bike.........I am stoked it still has that cafe look and style to it. I like your set up by the way. Looks sweet!

As for the bars, I am going to just put some miles on the rig and see how I get used to it. I will more than likely be changing the bars out BUT have to wait for the funds (spent the mulla).

Cheers,
Chans
