Mounting a windshield
I've tried literally everywhere to get a pair of windshield mounts for my Jawa/Velo 560. The closest I got were some photos that Sidecar Pete was kind enough to send me of the mounts on his 560. I have the windshield and gasket and am now wondering about trying to having something fabricated that looks like the original or possibly getting something else...... Since it's not too important to me to keep it completely original is there another windshield mounting system that's readily available and could be adapted to fit a 560?

Hello Gilbert,
I don't know which is the 560 model, I have the Jawa350 with the Velorex 562 and there the hole windshield mounting consists of the gasket, a flat aluminum stripe to back up the gasket, 5 tiny galvanized squares with a hole on each leg. And flimsy M4 or M5 screws. Cheap and easy from factory.
Not without reason the windshield got very fast a crack.
But anyhow it takes away a lot of speed and disturbs when I monkey, so it went off very fast. The only one who yearns is my wife, but anyhow in 3 years she accompanied me only 3 times. The mounting stays for to keep the cover sealed and the boat dry.
The weathertop I only mounted once when I married the boat to the motorcycle, since then both things are somewhere on top of some tool locker collecting dust.
Good luck
Sven Peter
I have a an extra set of windshield mounts for the Jawa Velorex 560. I am not willing to part with them, but I can try to help you with pictures and measurements. Have you found a source for other replacement parts? I'd like to get an extra rubber gasket/bumper for the base of the windshield. When did you get your 560? Thanks.
Troy,
I recently ordered the windshield and gasket from Mark at Velorex USA.
It sounded like there were just a few left so you'd better hurry.
Sidecar Pete provided me with pictures and measurements of his mounts so I'm OK on that part. I was just wondering about other ways to attach it before I had to have something fabricated.
I'd also like to see if anyone has the Velorex nameplate that goes over the top
Sorry I don't have any spare parts.
Howard
Troy,
I bought the sidecar about a month ago through a Los Angeles craigslist ad.
I have photos posted here under Romalotta

If you would consider letting me borrow a set of spare windshield mounts to make copies I would be sure to take care of them and send them back quickly.

That's what I thought. I was trying to buy that same sidecar from Brant. We had a deal worked out and then he said that some local guy was coming to pick it up. I guess he didn't want to futz with helping me ship it to Atlanta. Oh well, good for you. I hope it's a nice rig, although I'd be happier if it was in my garage. 🙂
Troy,
It's the same rig and it is in good condition. The wheel has some corrosion and I'll be having it laced to a new rim. I also added some extra weight to it by having a steel plate welded inside the frame. I think you can see it in one of the Romalotta photos.
All I need now is to borrow someone's extra windshield mounts to have a pair fabricated. Hint, hint.

It's a tough call, parting with rare, if not impossible to find, parts. Especially since I got snaked on the car already; not by you, of course. I bet you didn't think the world is this small; well at least the sidecar world is. So how can I be sure the parts will make it back to me? What is your plan on getting them replicated? How long will it take? We'll see if we can work something out.
Troy,
I understand your concern and I'd also feel the same way if I were in your situation.
Give me a call. I have an idea that I'm sure you'll feel comfortable with (and a nice bottle of Napa wine included).

Troy,
I got your photos. Thanks. Good looking setup.
I tried replying to you but now my mail server is acting up.
I'll keep trying.

I am thinking about getting the Jawa Velorex 560 windshield mounts remanufactured? Any interest out there?
Troy,
I'm in and a friend wants a pair too. Let me know how much and how soon. I was going to try to have a local machine shop make a pair from photos. I prefer your method of course.
Howard
Troy,
Most people on this site seem to be willing to help each other with free advice and help. I thought when you responded to my original post that would be the case. I'm willing to pay reasonable costs involved but am unable and unwilling to send you a $1,000 deposit for borrowing the mounts as you had suggested or other approaches that exceed the costs of manufacturing and shipping.
If this is a prospective business venture you might want to post it under classified.

I've looked into getting the Jawa Velorex 560 windshield mounts remade for Howard. Unfortunately, they are too expensive to do just a single set, even a couple of sets. Initial tooling for the stamped aluminum brackets are in excess of $1000. Casting was just as expensive. As for asking for a $1000 for my set, that was only a deposit to ensure that I got my parts back in a timely manner. Otherwise, there would be no guarantees that I would get them back. I had hoped to be able to help a brother out, but I can't find an economic method of reproduction. So this is definitely not a business venture. If anyone else has ideas to help Howard out, I'd be open to suggestions.
