I found a web site that showed sidecars made from surplus aircraft drop tanks. For some reason I can't find the web site, but I believe it was German. Has anyone seen one of these? Does anyone have plans for something like this? It looks pretty straight forward, just build up a sidecar rig frame and then mount the droptank-turned sidecar. I have a '76 BMW R60/6 and I think it would look good. Plus I used to fly around with these things attached to my Navy A-6, so one attached to the bike would be at the minimum a great conversation piece. Any thoughts?

Here's one from the Yakima Unrally in 05. The car was an F-14 Fuel cell. I think the owner's name is Ruben Rodriguez, but I don't have the name of the guy(s) who helped him put it together.

With these huge Photobucket (or whatever) shots, the photos are sure hard to see on my monitor. I have to arrow up, down and sideways to get the whole subject.
Anyone else have the same problem?

My browser loads these full size and then shrinks it to fit, so there is no panning required. I am using Internet Exploder. Here is a 4X5 version.

Gavin,
I think this may be the site you were speaking of.

or here if the above doesn't work:

Or if I blew it on both of them click here and hit the links at the left of the screen...it is there trust me 🙂

Lonnie, if you're using Internet Explorer, Click on the word "Tools" on the upper left of the Browser, then click on "Internet Options". Next, click on the tab that says "Advanced". Now scroll down the list until you can put a check in the box "Enable automatic image resizing". From now on, the image will start out full sized, then shrink to fit your screen. If you click on the picture, a small box appears in the lower right corner. Click on that box if you want to return the picture to it's original size.
If you don't use IE, you'll need someone else to help you.

Hey! Thanks for the inputs. The wen site links work great, and that was the site I had seen. I know I can find the surplus drop tank, the next question is to find plans for the sidecar frame and attachments. Or would I be better off finding an old used rig, taking off the car and modifying the existing frame? I've been looking for a beat up rig and have yet to see anything worthwhile on ebay. Seems a used velorex frame might be ideal.

I think a used Velorex frame would work well if you can find one. Actually there are many options . I would love to build a frame from scratch specifically for one of these. I think an internal frame with only the suspension parts and mounting struts exposed would really be a neat deal. If you are interested feel free to contact me. Sorry for the spam folks but have been wanting to do one for myself for a long time and just have not made the time to do so.
