Kids in the Sidecar

I take my daughter to school everyday in my sidecar. It is a fully enclosed canopy. I have a Recaro child seat, one of the best. It is secured to the seatbelt bolts that go into the tubular steel frame. She wears a DOT helmet and is perfectly comfortable in the cabin, She falls asleep every commute. A couple links to my youtube channel.
Here you can see the police pull me over and ask about the daughters safety.

Here you can see what it looks like inside the cabin with the child seat. The Recaro is large and turns the two-seater into a single seat, but since she has no other passenger it is quite cozy and safe.

Be sure to check what your state laws are regarding child passengers either in sidecars or as a pillion rider on the bike. I believe here in Washington state the minimum age is 5, my kids are all grown so I haven't checked recently.

WA, 5 years old on the bike. I don't know of anyone hassled about kids in a sidecar. The sidecar regs. are quite nebulous.

Hello

If I might add twopennyworth some people in the UK add seat belts to the chair always advise buying new and not obtaining from a wrecked car, you do not know what stresses the belt has been subject to on its trip to the scrappie.
If the children are small you have to avoid submarining when braking and use a booster seat.

Regards

Barry
