Well I have my axle turned. I have to make a seal spacer and drill it for a cotter key. I'm almost ready to go out to my friend that has a tubing bender;o) I'll try and get some pictures up tomorrow.

The Harley axles are drilled for a roll pin. I didn't like the roll pin so I replace it with a stout cotter pin, trimmed to fit inside of the little hubcap. The roll pins are really hard to start and to remove and there is a tendency to damage the axle. I never used the one that came with the sidecar in the crate.

By the way, you are doing one heck of a nice job on your rig. Keep up the good work and send more pictures, please. I really enjoy watching you work! This type of work is very satisfying, I know. I've never built my own rig but I certainly enjoy working on them and inproving them here and there.

When you get through with the hack, you can start on a winch reverse like I built. It will give you something to do with your idle time. LOL.

Hey, Thanks for the compliment;o) I don't like roll pins ether. They are always a pain to use. I wish I had more time to work on this project. Work has been taking about 60 hours a week here lately. That doesn't leave much "play time".

The axle was pretty straight forward. I had a bit of trouble threading the 4340 for some reason? I think there was a hard spot? My tool kept breaking at the same spot. but I got through it. Here is a quick picture. I think I have to shorten the threads a bit to? We'll see after I get the spacer made.

I'v had very little time to work on my car latly. But I still sneak out when I can. I've been fitting wood and gluing pieces when I get them done. Here are a couple of quick pictures.
This is the first brace in front of the seat. Those gussets had all kind opf angles on them!

I'm still working on the back end also. I have a couple more braces cut out. I'll be able to start gluing them soon I think.

Have a great day!!!!!

I think he knows what he's doing. Maybe a trip to Harbor Freight will get him all of the clamps he needs but I suspect he's got it covered.

It looks like a nice job!

I got a little bit more done. Been to busy to work on it much. I'm going to school to learn CNC, so I'm incorporating that a little into my build. I'm machining my own tail light out of aluminum. It will be pretty big, but I think it will look good on my build. There will be 4 lights inside it. 3 will be running/brake and the fourth will be running/right turn signal.

Here are a couple views of what I have so far. I hope to get the rest of the major machine work done tomorrow at school.

It measures 16" wide and 4" tall and it will be 2.5" deep. I am going to use the sockets out of some commercial units.

I somewhat modified a thompson cyclecar about 1980 to fit my 1974 900 z1 beefed it up as it was to light a sidecar-might make a sidecar from ground up like homebuilt airplane same deal somewhat

if i build a sidecar from the ground up I was thinking of a rear axle from a newer compact car -1980 and up-out of a scrap yard some of them are a flange with bolts or studs that bolt to the rear axle and a sealed wheel bearing with your wheel attached and ready to go -be super cheap also-

Built a couple long ago using spindles from a Dodge K Car. They have flat bolt on flanges. Some Ramblers were like that also and made great trailer spindles. You can even retain the brakes if you wish.
