Do used leading link front ends

I have a GL1100 that I'll almost certainly be installing a sidecar onto this spring (health issues). I've been doing a ton of research here, and on other forums, etc. My GL1100 is an '81 - these older GL1100s have a bit of a flexy front end (don't ask me how I know). This often isn't evident until driving thru rough stuff. I'd like to install a beefier front end to optimize steering (lighten steering loads), but am not willing to drop $2500 for a new leading link front end. Do used leading links sometimes become available? Does anyone know where I might find one for my GL1100 for a reasonable price?

The GL1100 front ends perform quite well with upgraded springs and heavier fork oil. Modifying trail with raked trees will also ease handling while retaining a stock appearance.
Cost is less than half the price of LL's.

Thnx for the quick reply Lonnie. I've already been in contact with Brock at Side Effects in Kamloops. Am certainly considering the "Steerite" option. One of the reasons I'd like to look into the leading link option is to be able to run 15" car rubber on the front end. I totally realize how much extra work is involved, and certainly agree that a modified triple clamp is probably the easiest solution. I notice in Europe that the leading link setup is very popular... but rarely seen in NA. I'm trying to be very price conscious (am likely on the cusp of unplanned early retirement) which is why I'm putting out the feeler for used. Thnx

they are not seen here due to cost.

a leading link is really a very straight forward front end & a good idea

anything that says "sidecar" on it or is "unusual" is priced like its unobtanium and when you go to sell it is worth 165 a ton

Thnx Timo for your reply. That's what I figured. You'd think tho as the older Wings are getting pensioned off that these must come available occasionally. I'm hoping anyway :^)

Too bad..

Some one posted an eBay listing on GW board. It looked very decent and costed only $300 (buy it now price). It was for GL1100 and was snatched up immediately.

Thnx for the "heads up" 1bmwmc. I've already bought a Steerite triple tree from Side Effects for my GL1100, so I'm committed to that option.

I run a stock front wheel on my '82 GL1100 and have had 2 '81 GL1100's in the past. I use Dunlop ,now E3's and get arround 11-12000 miles on it and also the same on stock rear tires. I do not use a steering damper as the low speed wobble is not critical and is controlled by keeping both hands on the handlebars. If it is a severe wobble then check your alignment. A slight wobble is normal. Doug

The same mileage on front and rear bike tires with a hack mounted? Very unusual. Replacement ratio is usually two (or more) rear tires to one front tire unless there's an auto tire on the back.
