I recently purchased a 1948 BSA A7 Motorcycle and a BSA Model 22/47 Sidecar. The sidecar was not fitted to the A7 but was fitted to a Sunbeam. I have what I think to be all the parts to fit it to the A7 but I am having a hard time figuring out what goes where. Does anybody have information on the proper fitting on the A7? Possible pictures or a instruction manual? Two fitting points are OK, at the rear hub and at the steering head. Is there more required? Note also that this sidecar is fitted to the "correct side" (left side) of the bike. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Hope this works as far a including pictures.
The problem I have is where do 2 supports go. One is from the front of the frame and ends at the front chain and clutch housing and the other is from the center of the frame and ends up at the seat spring. I have also included a picture of the tapered boss under the front of the seat. I would have expected that would be where the rear brace would go.
The front brace which is now attached goes to a tapered boss under the steering head and the rear attachment threaded into a boss in the rear hub.
Any help sorting this out would be greatly appreciated.

Wayne,

Not to offend anyone in here as I am by no means an expert on this but in the Triumphrat.net forum I visit a lot there are a couple of guys who only deal in old British stuff and they have tons of experience on side cars. Given the hudge similarities of BSA's and Triumph's you might want to ask there.

Again, no offense to anyone in here and I hop I didn't step on anyones toes.

Dagad or Kadutz will be able to help you

In this instance the remaining position for the rear upper strut is at the seat post mount, the front strut would be connected as near as possible to the steering head, probably on the downtube.

Interesting.
The attach a file box almost never shows up when I reply. In fact, replying to this thread is the only time I have ever seen it! I am trying to reply to Joyce in the What Should I Buy Thread and would like to post a photo but that option is not there. I don't get it...

It is a forum by forum option. Originally there was concern about using too much space but now that isn't too much of an issue. The classifieds have had that option for a while and I recently changed the Technical forum to allow them there. I will flip the switch on General Discussion too.

Gentlemen
Thanks for your input. I have been in touch with Mr. Jim D'Arcy at Charnwood Classic Restorations in the UK and I have now sorted out my problems. I required modifications to two only parts, which they have found for me in the UK. They seem to be very familiar with sidecars, particularly for British bikes. Hope to have my rig on the road soon and will keep you informed. In case anybody else is in need of information or parts for British sidecars the Email address for Jim is sales@charnwoodclassic.com
Thanks again
