BMW hydraulic brake rubber parts
If any of you with BMW airheads that have haudraulic brakes that needed new master cylinder cups and/or caliper dust covers and qudraseal o-rings, maybe you can help me out. OEM BMW to do a rebuild is in the $$ range of $330 or so. Surely, surely, there is somewhere that the seals can be had without having to get the metal parts too.
Bike is 1977 R100S dual front disk, 40mm , and 17mm mastercylinder.
Or maybe there are other solutions???? What do you guys know to help?
There are repair kits available for all the brake parts. They aren't cheap but they are not in the hunderds. Goggle Bob's BMW and they have PDF parts cataloges available for your airhead and that will give an idea of the prices. Harold S
I've heard the undertank master cylinder stuff has recently jumped considerably in price. Someone like Bob's, Blue Moon, Boxerworks, Cycle Recycle, Hucky's, etc who sell other then oem along with oem may be more reasonable, then a straight bmw dealership. Another popular option, that would be less then $350 would be to upgrade to "modern, from the 80's" brembo handlebar master cylinder. Yhis also eliminates the strechy cable from the handlebar to the master cylinder.
Ta da! I found good deals for both the calipers and mastercylinder. The aTe caliper kits came from some nice friendly guys at 'eurotechmotosports' for around $25 each. They are a great source for many parts. Chris, there, even sent me pics of his earls fork dual disk set up for me to use as reference for the one I am making . BikeBandit has the under tank OEM mastercylinder kit for $33 plus ship which is 1/2 anyone else's $$. So, I did O.K. after all.
I am looking for a set of Brembo dual front disk calipers & handlebar cylinder from an R80 or such for the earls fork project. I think K-models will not swap to the electrics too well but the R-models might have the same right hand controls. Wish me luck.
