axles for my jupiter sidecar

My jupiter sidecar came with a trailer wheel on it. I'm mounting it on a '76 BMW R60/6. I'd like to convert it back to a 19" drum brake wheel. The obvious choice is the
BMW/6 17mm axle drum brake wheel. However, they're kind of
expensive. I keep seeing lots of 60s and 70s vintage Triumph and BSA
wheels going fairly cheaply on Ebay. Does anybody have any experience
with alternate wheels? My swing arm is set up to hold a 1" axle
(probably not standard, but I think easy to change with shims, etc.)
I'd like to do this as low-buck as possible, but I don't want to
compromise safety by using too wimpy an axle. Thanks.

Gavin,
The new sidecar axle can be easily installed using bushings to adjust to the desired diameter, but think also of getting a sturdy enough wheel to accomodate the side loading of a heavy car. Sideloading is not an important factor when dealing with solo motorcycles but very important for sidecar rigs.
