Before jumping into buying a new sidecar for my new bike, I've been thinking about getting an older unit to pair with one of my older bikes, maybe my '79 R100/7. Unless I pick-up a Hannigan or some such where I can go back to the factory for the correct mounts, etc., how do I mount a sidecar that was set up for "X" bike on my Beemer? Is there routinely the mounting flexibility to switch a hack from one bike to another? Clearly, I'm over my head here. Thank you.

Your bike requires a sub frame. We make these sub frames. Most sidecars have adjustable mounts to adapt to the mounts. Before you buy a used sidecar, give me a call, we can go over what you are going to need. If the sidecar is going to be a safe match up and if the sidecar is worth messing with as some older sidecars by the time you make them safe may not be worth the effort. We have new sidecars starting at $3695 for our Kenna, These come with the bike specific NOT universal mounts. Between the R100/7 and the R100S rigs that my wife and I ran and with the many hundreds of these mounts we have built I should be able to help you with any questions you may have.

Best/quickest way to go with a /7 is with a sub-frame mount system. The Germans dropped the ball and stopped the frame at the seat post with these and some earlier models that superceded the /2's. The whole rear structure is supported by 2-8mm bolts. Remove these and the whole back end drops on the rear tire.
With a good sub-frame mounting they are very good sidecar tugs.

Thanks to your both. I'll drag the /7 out when things slow down (spring in a boatyard) and decide where to go from there.

I'm brand new to sidecars and to USCA. I have a 1989 Kawasaki 454 LTD. At age 78 I decided I had waited long enough to try a sidecar and began searching the Internet for some help.
Fortunately I ran into Lonnie at Northwest Sidecars and he gave good advice on what size and kind to get.
The new Velorex 562c was installed by Sidecar Bill Ryder here in Helena, MT and works great.
I am enjoying the new ride and would like to express my appreciation for the professionalism and expertise that Lonnie offered as I looked for the best way to go.
Thanks also to USCA. As a new member I appreciate the the web pages and forums.

Thanks again for all who helped me get started with the sidecar.
Be Fantastic
