You won't need the damper. It just slows the steering down and makes for more resistance and less road feedback.

I put the Champion raked trees on my '03 Softtail along with the steering damper. Took the damper off after a couple hundred miles, haven't needed to put it back on. Took the hardware off after about 1000 miles not using the damper. Lonnie is right, the damper makes it slow steering, especially at slow speeds. When turning around in the garage it makes it difficult to turn the handlebars quickly.

The trees I got are made by LLM
Very nice quailty and super nice fit...They come complete, but they werent drilled and threade for the factory HD dampner mount...
I did this before putting them on...Now I have the option....
I spoke with the manufacturer in Minn. and he actual said alot of guys are buyin his 5 degree trees and putting them on solo baggers..They are finding them that much easier to handle with them installed...
I will be trying mine solo, just to the car wash, then back on goes my car....
I am gonna install the dampner at first, and see what i find...Our roads here are rather washy and groved, so i dont want any headshackes or wobbles..
If the trees take out the arm strong steering , I will be happy....
Will post my results...
At the same time I am installing my u blot replacement block that i got from GM...
I have it on loose right now and ready for doing my alignment...
My ol girl is loving me for the attention....LOL

Not the same application, but I concur with Lonnie: No damper was needed after installing 5* trees on my Sportster rig.

In the next post up you state the manufacturer of the trees said people are putting his raked trees on baggers. A couple of days ago I posted a question about riding solo with raked trees and experiencing rear end wobble at speed. Everybody says you shouldn't ride with raked trees and no sidecar, the wobble is the reason. Here in Az. the freeway speed limit is 75 mph, if you aren't doing 80 you'll get run over. 80 mph is where the wobble started and it can get nasty real fast. As Elmer Fudd says, "Be vewwy, vewwy careful!" The bike wanted to follow the ruts, I don't think having the steering damper on would have prevented the wobble.

Ya thtas what Gerry at LLM told me....He has a bro that put a set on his bagger and loves it...Says he is a seasoned rider and just wanted it to steer easier..
I no years ago, I rode a 70s Flh with factory adj trees that were kicked out...It rode fine...Then the guy wanted more and put 6 over tubes in it and left the rake out...The front end felt vey floopy to me and I remember every time he got off it the forks flopped over to the left side...
Betcha Peter fonda felt the same way with Captain America....I guess all those OCC bikes etc must be the same way...Lotsa rake!!
I just found my bike with the hack on, tough to manuver at low speed or in side winds...Thus, the trees...I will prob put my dampner on it as well, as it is new and came with my HD sidecar install kit...Plus, i see the triglides have a dampner from the factory ...That maybe a liabilty issue there tho...
Seems as tho even with a dampner, there is alot of rolled Tri Glides at auctions....Ive never ridin yet one other than a little honda 250 tike, but Im sure its all about expierience....
Time will tell me what i prefer, but you can bet on the fact, Im only going solo to the car wash, then my car is back on...!!!

I had a guy from Manitoba working for/with me. He had worked for Manitoba Hydro up at Gillam, but he grew up in Winterpig.

i keep wondering if triglides are going to be more prone to rolling over than sidecar rigs are - with sidecar when the chair wheel comes up it comes up in a way that gives a small chance of correction - if the rear comes up its probably all over -

hmmm

i worry about some do gooder making some claim that trikes are not safe and screwing the pooch...

I've heard noise about trike rollovers. Only the ones with a single front wheel. The Spyder and Morgan type with two in front are more stable. I have only observed one trike rollover.
It was a Harley Servicar on the northbound Interstate Portland/Vancouver Hiway 99 bridge in June of 1966 (while we were painting the bridges).

Sporty, my 5* trees were purchased from Frankenstein Trikes in Kansas, who had 'em in stock when needed on short notice before an oppurtune week long trip.
