Ok, new guy here. just added a stock 47 sidecar to my 46 knuckle.
Bike is stock frame but have late model springer. I think they are 2 inches longer than original springer. At about 15 up to 25 I need to hold on tight or it really shimmies. I am going to start with some new neck bearings right now but thought I would throw this out there and see what kind of wisdom might pop up. This springer does not have a dampner like the original does. I have also thought about changing front tire to a flatter style rather than the rounded newer tires. I am in WA state. thanks, ric

Hi Rick,

Maybe for starters tighten your neck bearings a little more than the normal spec to create a little drag so to speak in the stearing.

My 72 Fl I would tighten the bearings with the front wheel off the ground, tightening them till the forks would not "automatically" flop to one side or another as quickly this way in turn creating a bit of drag I also addeded a HD friction dampener on the stearing head along with a set of adjustable HD triple trees that seemed to cure most of it and it also would go away if I gave er a bit more gas when starting out

Nice looking Knuckle you got there

Hi Chuck, thanksfor the tips. I was told the other day that the late model springers had an inherint problem with the bearing and seeing how mine are kinda lose already I quess I better get straight to it. I was also told I might find adjustable neck race's. If I kick it out more does that also help?

I added a couple more shots too. thanks

Rick

Just curious why not put the original frontend back on if you have it unless you are looking for more bling and stopping power?

I don't think that there ever was a adjustable neck races for the springer frontend but I could be wrong.

HD did make adjustable triple trees for the hydra-glide frontends for solo and sidecar use and I think that they may have been used on the servicars also.

I have a set of those I kept them when I sold the shovelhead....just incase.

Is that a L&W windshield? I had one for my sidecar

If you plan on keeping this as a sidecar rig, Get in touch with Pete at Liberty Motors in Seattle. He does the raked trees for Heritage Springers for $950.00. (Not including R&R) After this modification no Damper will be needed.
