I recently bought a 1930 Harley VC with a side car. The side car needs complete restoration, but other than the windshield it's completely there. First there are very few books for my bike model and they have little information on side cars. Does anyone know of some good restoration books on these early Harley LT side cars?

Oh and for your amusement:

Hi Peter,

A have you tried VL Heaven for restoration of the bike and sidecar?

I also know of a guy in Canada that is currently restoring a 30 VC and sidecar he has quite a bit of information on restoring his sidecar he got the info. first hand from the Dealey museum in Canada.

If you haven't yet you can also try the Antique Motorcycle Club at www.antiquemotorcycle.org

I am currently working on a 30 VL that is in need of a sidecar.

One other thing the end of this month in Oley PA. the AMCA has a pretty large swap meet may want to check it out.

Chuck, I've email Steve Slocumbe at Vl Heaven, no word yet. I also talked to the guys at Harbor Vintage in Vermont, but I'd like to do as much as possible by myself. When Irestored my 1970 Triumph a few years ago, Triumph had great workshop manuals and parts books with exploded views. No such luck with the older Harleys.

The only book out there right now is Steve Slocumbe's book and he doesn't get into too much detail on side cars. I figure someone out there must have written a book?

I have to take a look at Hemmings Motor News and see whats in their "book" section

I'm going thru my parts book and it lists parts for "very early 1930" and "1930". Anyone know how I can tell which one I have. the serial number on my bike is a mid run number, so I'm inclined to think I DON"T have the early side car.

Thanks

Peter

Peter,
If you have Ricks e-address ask him I think he would most likely know.
