Thanks for the suggestion and advice. I like the idea of not messing with my Tiger and I already have Steve's GL1500 tagged as a target.
What are your (the everyone's) thoughts on the 2005 BMW R1200ST (down in New Orleans)?
I owned a BMW 650 GS in the past.

650 gs and R1200st are night and day different.  Chain vs shaft, 300lbs vs 500, gobs more HP and torque, Smooth and silky vs farm implement.  Both have their place and tugging a long distance comfortable sidecar isn’t something I would immediately think “650 gs would be great for this.”

Nevertheless, you won’t go wrong exploring Steve’s Wing, even if you find something else that suits you.

Ryan, that R1200ST w/Sputnik near New Orleans has a bad history, as it was put together by the former DMC sidecars when it was up in Washington.

Bad ju ju there. And that Sputnik sidecar is half the quality of sidecar compared to the California Escort ll that Steve Ives is selling.

And....whilst you may, or may not, be a fan of a Honda Goldwing, it is impossible to beat the reliability of a Goldwing, and the torque from that 6 cylinder engine.

Finally, you neglected to tell ME where it is you live in the Great Pacific Northwest, as we might be neighbors. Razz

@thane-lewis Thanks. Yes, night and day but same flavor of build.  My tiger is more similar in weight and ride.

@miles-ladue Thanks for the info.
I like the Goldwing for its power and reliability but wish it were just a less hungry for fuel and a little bit more dirt friendly.

I'm between King and Snohomish counties and most often travel Hwy 2 but prefer Hwy 20 when its open.

Ryan, how is it possible to be between King and Snohomish counties? They adjoin one another, so ..there is no in between 😉

The R1150GS is a very good bike for sidecar use.... actually preferred over the R1200GS.

Talk to Chuck Loftin @54vintage about R1150GS usage....as he is the expert on those.

He is in Eugene, Oregon... currently building my Africa Twin sidecar rig, and....he has R1150GS's for sale.

I have his direct contact info....if you want it.

Ryan, not sure why the link to the 1150 got dropped, but it is gone.

when I had an 1150 gs the absolute best I ever got for mileage was in Wyoming in Yellowstone at around 50 mpg.  Average for me without a sidecar or Jesse cans was 40-42 in mostly highway miles.  I imagine it would have dropped to 35 or lower with a aural style car.

Currently I’m getting 26-28 with the 1800 Wing/Champion Daytona on mostly highway use.

If you shift that '06 Wing into OD...."overdrive"...it will get better than 30 mpg. Eat

Ryan, of course this is just my opinion.... having reviewed the ad posted on the other forums, including many pictures....I say that if this rig tickles your fancy, and you can buy it closer to $ 10k.....then buy it NOW.

It certainly appears to be a very well assembled rig, lots of good thought and execution went into this rig.

The seller has it listed for $ 11,950.00 and OFFERS ACCEPTED.

I would offer the seller $ 10,000 cash in hand, and if he accepts that...buy it NOW.

BTW, you will already have a built in riding buddy, as Scott @scott-h has the matching bike with a Depnr sidecar tub attached to it. He lives in Roosevelt, Utah....which is on your way back to home in Washington.

Where my R1100 GS is the Screaming Yellow Zonker, this R1150 GS rig is more a Screaming Yellow Zoomer! 😎
