before you call it done you can do a quick easy test to get an idea if it's any good. Take it off and stand it up on end and try to quickly compress it, it is just collapses it is bad, if not it might still have some good live left. I would take it to a local pars house to try to match it up if you need to replace it.

Good idea. It does push in pretty easily, but then after such a long time.... Been reading about adjustable dampers and they sound better in terms of what you want from your outfit in terms to handling etc. Someone on Adventure rider suggested Hannigan looked similar so i will look them up

Steve, of course when anyone mentions "Hannigan", they are referring to the sidecar manufacturer in Murray, Kentucky.
Call them, talk to Stephanie or Ruth Ann, and tell them what you are looking for.

Steve, when I had it I never noticed excessive front wheel wobble but it wouldn’t be bad to check it as Ace mentioned. I think if you take it to NAPA and ask them to match it up w/ something to go w/ volks wagon it will come up. I’ve read something back when on the adv website that champion interchanged w/ vw.

Steve.....you must believe......at this point the old Steering Dampener was a bandaid covering up a deeper problem, which I believe is a poorly worn front tire, caused by being a Metzler ME888 Ultra Marathon, being under inflated.
Fix THEE primary problem. You already have a new front tire on order. Once you receive it, get it mounted.....BACKWARDS....and balanced, then reinstalled onto the bike....then test drive it at ALL speeds.
Report back to us.....
If everything is done correctly, and you still have a slight head shake at lower speeds, then reinstall the steering dampener.
