Hal Kendall, noted sidecar authority and founding member of the United Sidecar Association, has asked that we post the following books to the website in their entirety. When I asked Hal what prompted him to make such a generous offer, he replied as follows;
“The reason for giving the manuals to the USCA, and making them available at cost via CD-ROM from my home is that safety should NOT be something that needs to be BOUGHT if you can't afford it. If you believe in it, it must be freely shared.”

Hal Kendal was also the USCA historian, after he passed no one took on the roll. Terry member # 3 said no thank you.

I guess they are with Hal 's family. When Hal was alive I bought a CD from him of all the Sidecarist from day one. After I looked at it. I gave it to Richard to sell copies in the club store. After Richard died no one found it. Who even has a CD player anymore.

In the mid-'80s I installed a Zephyr car on an OEM 1954 Harley-Davidson wishbone powered by a 1974 shovelhead 74" engine - virtually box stock - and a four-speed kickstart-only transmission. That feat would have been impossible had I not had Hal Kendall's excellent manuals at hand.
After my stepdaughter's mother and I divorced I let the sidecar go to a fellow I met at a Texas Motorcycle Roadrider's Association rally, who had a Sportster and a burgeoning family. Never saw him or the car after that, so I have no idea what became of it.
I also let my membership in the United Sidecar Association lapse. I still had (and still have) my shovelhead, but without the car I couldn't justify shelling out the annual dues.
However, I never forgot the assistance I received from USA members, and the important resources y'all have on offer, and have spent the years since then recommending your organization to anyone I've encountered, online or IRL, who expressed any interest at all in sidecars. Did it again just this morning....
....which brought me here to poke around a bit. I saw this post, and just wanted to express my wholehearted appreciation for Hal's books and the work y'all do. Too bad you don't accept trikers, too - I was disabled in a work accident and recently acquired a late-model Harley trike - but I will continue to be your biggest outside booster.
