The Texas Ural Riders Division of the Soviet Steeds have once again invited us to join them for the Spring TURD -- our East Texas Sidecar Muster -- scheduled for May 3-5, 2013 at Holly Park Marina on Toledo Bend Reservoir near Milam, Texas: http://www.hollyparkmarina.com/
More details will be posted later, but expect a laid back gathering. Planned activities will likely include a Saturday morning group ride to late breakfast and some forest road rides for off-pavement adventurers.
And I will try to scout out the closest ice cream source before the rally.
We had an opportunity to scout area for the Muster/TURD last Saturday. The Holly Park Marina has several amenities, including gasoline pumps and air compressor at the store:
Along with a breakfast and lunch counter -- the bacon cheeseburger we sampled was good eats:
Here's a sampling of tent camping space:
The marina has some very nice waterfront RV spots too:
And is just 1/2 mile away from an excellent two-track trail called Nine Mile Road for the Ural riders and other adventurers :
The proposed sidetrip to Goober Hill was bust, as there are no signs marking the former community -- and all but one road in is unpaved.
Also, Holly Park is 15+/- miles from Dairy Queen, so, Oldtimer, the closest ice cream is in the freezer right there at the marina store :
Welcome to the forum. Good to see you here! We're sure hoping to see you sporting your rig in May. And I plan to post a notice on the TWT forum in the near future.
looks good Lee. thanks for the recon, we look forward to seeing everyone there. i am having a few little things replaced on the rig; lights, tires engine. and will be ready to roll by then. will have the tires done in time for Pie Run in Crockett
We have just reserved Cabin #2 at Holly Park. Rosa and I would like to extend an invite to sidecarists and the TURDS too, to come eat tamales and frijoes ( bring your own drinks) on Friday, May 3.
Sunday May 5 will be "Cinco de Mayo" Mexican independence day -- thats when a ragtag mexican army lead by a Texan defeated the French army in 1863. Let me know if you will attend to get a head count -- we now have a trailer, so more tamales can be transported .. Hope to see all of you there.
Friday 2:00pm: Off-Pavement ride up Nine-Mile & NF Roads. Maybe I can ride monkey?
Friday 7:00pm: Tamales & Beans by Art & Rosa** -- BYOB
**Art needs a head count for Friday -- Please let us know if you plan to be there**
Saturday 8:05am: Riders Meeting Saturday 8:15am: Group Ride to breakfast at Pinto Pony Cookie Factory in San Augustine -- 24 miles.
Saturday: 10:45am: Return routes at rider discretion. An option is via Milam for stop at Sale on the Trial Trade Days -- 20 miles, then 8 miles back to Holly Park.
Saturday Supper???? --- Maybe fire up the charcoal grill -- Bring your own eats.
The proposed Friday 2:00pm off-pavement ride is from Holly Park north via Nine Mile Road and, generally speaking, Forest Service Road 126, past and back to Ragtown Recreation Area/campground (with restroooms) and then back to Holly Park. There are no stores nor gas on the various alternative routes.
The ride should be about 60 miles round-trip and take less than 4 hours including a stops for sightseeing and photos -- but not counting getting lost and/or stuck.
Time is getting close to the E Tx Muster / Spring TURDS --- would like a headcount for the tamale supper on Friday ---- Do the TURDS know about Friday Supper?

Art, it's a constantly moving target, but 34 is a reasonable estimate for Friday evening. Extras should not be a problem as several folks have mentioned wanting to purchase more for later.
