Are there any generic manuals to guide the die-hard DIY'er to connect a sidecar to a bike?

Go to the Reference and Educational Materials section of the Forum. Hal Kendall left us a legacy of references there. Make sure you have a lot of paper in your printer when you print them off. If I remember right there is over 100 pages -not all of which apply to your question.
