What to buy??
Would like to put a side car on our 05 1200R Sportster for an extended retirement tour. Not sure what to buy. Would have to haul our camping gear and 70# dog. Have many many miles over 45 years on motorcycles but have never tried a side car so am ignorant of what to do. Not sure what will fit nor how much it should weigh. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanksssssssssss!!!!!! steve
I am exactly in your shoes! Including the dog...

If you read my thread you will understand it!!!
Did a lot... a lot... of research... reading... and that was my conclusion...
Pricey? Maybe... maybe not... I like the TILT function... I like the disc brake... and the fact that Jay at Dauntless has such a good reputation and his kits are trouble free mounting...

In my opinion Doggles are much more important than the Zoomer helmet for your favorite K-9 monkey. They keep the wind and debris out of his eyes. We met a guy whose pup (eight year old German Shepard) rode on the back seat of his Harley a number of years ago. The dog was nearly blind because of the wind. Archie has worn Doggles since his first ride. And unless it's wet to go along with the cold tomorrow morning we'll be headed for the Frosty Bunz Run in Post Falls. Sixteen degrees here this morning but dry...
My personal choice would be a Velorex 565, BUT any sidecar can be made to fit. Dauntless makes subframes for pretty much everything. the Velorex 565 has a nice interior, flip up nose, beefy frame, big axle, and common tire size. Good stuff all around. 100 differnet sidecar owners will probably give you 100 different answers though. Where are you located? Often having an experienced sidecar fan nearby can make all the difference when choosing a rig.
Thanks for the reply. Can use all the advice we can fine. We are in extreme SE Idaho. Just East of Georgetown in Left Hand Canyon. We will have snow until the first week of June. Were in Sturgis last summer, beautiful place to ride. I have been reading Hal Kendals Side car manual and have a friend in Fla. that had one for a brief time. I realize that they can be an accident waiting to happen so am approaching the whole thing with extreme caution!!! Again, Thanksssss for the input. steve & Mary Hill
Look in Albums/Hack'ns Albums/More yet, for pix on how a 562C Velorex would look on your Sporty. There are other several other Sportys we have mounted in my albums also.

The Motorvation Spyder was designed with a sportster or an FXR in mind. I bought one for my Harley Ultra, which works fine except I think the bike overpowers it a bit. You don't want a very heavy bike and a light sidecar or the other way around. The rig would be more balanced if I put it on my FXR. So, I am in the middle of doing that. The is plenty of room for a full size passenger, even a long legged one. There is no door or cut down so the high sides might incourage the dog as a passenger.
The factory is very helpful and the sidecar is a well built piece.
Plus, it looks right on the Harley.

Our Kenna is a good value at only $2495. The Ural is also nice. We have Ural's in stock. We are about 2 weeks out on Kenna's. We have bike specific mounts in stock for your bike.
Let me know if we can be of help.
We are over in the Seattle area and are now doing an 05 Sportster / Kenna if you wanted to come over and take a look.

Dauntless Motors CorporationGlad to read that you had the Ural in stock, Jay... I forgot to even ask you that... but after your firm commitment yesterday to have the rig shipped by the 21st the latest I just assumed that you did...
(Ara Gureghian).
Being new to this, I still would like to assume, like everything else, a vehicle needs to fit its purpose. I lived on sailboats for 28 years and they each had a purpose... coastal sailboat... blue water sailboat...
same as cycles... cruiser... off road... dual purpose as my GS.... Through a lot of research I have found that the Ural will be the only one that could handle off road riding with more ease... (clearance...).
Be well... Ara
The Warkshop in OHIO sells a 562 velorex that I just put on my sprtster 883.
I did the work by myself - absolutly solo and had it on in a day. in the 25 hundred dollar market. I'm taking it 3 k in June to New York!!
