One of the bikes I am considering as a tug is the Kawasaki Vulcan 2000. What kind of pros and cons do you guys see with this rig. I haven't ridden for 30 years but I want a good and safe rig.

found a vulcan 1600 instead.

It's a good strong tug. Quite popular for conversion.
Like most Japanese cruisers it wont need much in the way of maintenance.
The naked bikes are also easier to attach a sidecar to.

How big is the gas tank (what's the range?)? I'm not all that familiar with the Vulcan, but I seem to remember that it had a rather small tank.

What size engine on that vulcan????
Bigger is better but as Lonnie said Vulcans do serve as a good tug.
They also do pretty well on the gas mileage so I would only be concerned about an ancillary fuel tank if you plan to take long trips or do alot of miles per day.

I'd also add a Tour Tank, You don't have a gas station om every corner in that neck of the woods. Beautiful riding country though, even if it does get "damp" occasionally.

Harbor is a good place (Brookings too.) I spent time on the Coast Guard life boat station there in the late 60's. Still got a couple friends there we see on the rare occasion we're down that way...
