V-Max Car Tire and Wheel combo
Does anybody have any experience with, or know where I could get a car tire and wheel for a Yamaha vmax?
I can find loads of vmax pictures with sidecars and most of them have car tires on the back, but I cannot seem to find where to get the wheel. The stock wheel is only 3.5" wide and is therefore too narrow for a traditional radial tire.
I cannot seem to find vmax wheels that are wide enough for a radial tire, say 5" or so.
Any help is sincerely appreciated.
Sorry to get back on this old post.... Did you get any answers on this tire prob? I putting an hack on my -94 Vmax and looking for the same answer!
Thks!

I'v had a 165/80R 15 on my 85 Honda Shadow (3.5") rim for two years with no problem. Plan to move it to my 84 Virago 1000 with the hack this spring.
Thks for the answer! What kind of speed are you cruising at?

So, Marty, from the pic it looks like your 85 Shadow is a VT1100C? Which tire did you get to fit on that rim?
I saw a michlyn car tire on the rear of a V-Max rig 12 years ago at a Guzzi breakfast at a golf course near Chicago.

Drone, All the 80's Shadows have the same rim . The one in the pic is a vt700c, got the tire online Nexen brand with a M&S rating.

That's probably the Nexen SB 802. Not the greatest tire in the world, but perfectly fine as a car pusher. I know a guy who used it as a car pusher on a BMW GS rig (with a car wheel conversion.) He thought it was OK.
Still, kind of amazing that you got it to seat on that rim. Usually, 15" CT's don't mount up to 15" moto rims. I'm impressed.
There´s a company in Germany who weld car dishes to your original V-Max hub (able to go through German TUV!) . They do a good job but want to get payed for. Last time I let them do a wheel for me 8 years ago it was € 800,-- including black paint or powdercoat. http://www.v-max-f-maerz.de/
They build V-Max rigs as well and know what they´re doing
Another company in Germany for rigs, they build their own wheels (from € 1200,--) to fit any bike.
And they sell very soft steering dampers, that just take out the wobble at low speed without making steering efford high. recommendable! http://www.walter-motorrad-gespanntechnik.de/

I like the Nexen SB802 for traveling on the GS rig. Not a great tire but inexpensive and it seems to do a good job for what I do with it. I do not take the GS out a lot in the Winter up here since I have a Ural Patrol for that but when I do take the GS out it does good enough in the snow.
You can give Woody's a call in Denver and if you are running spoked wheels he can lace a car rim up to your hub or he may have other suggestions. Best MC wheel shop I know of. I had him relace all four of Ural rears a few years ago and I will swear by him for any kind of wheel work.
